Benching Chiller

Hi all

This is my benching run chiller, nicknamed by my LAN mates the Deathchiller. This is it's 2.1 revision.

I am running ~8ft 0.9mm captube (kind of tongue in cheek measurement on length I know..im bad)

The exchanger and the captube are the current modifications that I made to the 2.0 revision, and there is more work to be done. (like cleaning it xD)

Among other things, I need to acquire a new pump as mine busted. Who knew the D5 was so fragile?

On to the chiller.

New exchanger. Basically instead of the evap inside of the water loop, now the water loop is inside of the exchanger. Inb4 cascade =] (thats pretty much where the idea came from)

The brass is the inlet, the copper is the outlet. I still need to flare the copper outlet as it is 3/8" and my 7/16" tubing is huge on it..(there is a joke in there somewhere O_o)

Cap tube dumps near the 180 bend, suction pics up at the other end. While I did want to run the evap through the full 180 bend, I just didn't have the material to do it with and I am trying to do this with as little investment as possible and still do things "right" as I am currently between jobs (start work on the 13th thankfully though).

Hopefully this design will eliminate some of the issues I was having previously and yield better efficiency.

The cap tube definitely makes a difference. Its also interesting, as soon as things start icing over, it completely ices over FAST. This is something I didn't see on the shorter cap tube.

about 7 minutes in..

maybe 1 minute later, possibly 2..

I have not water tested it yet due to dead pump. Considering cannibalizing my water setup for it's D4 pump and just cruising on air for the time being..dunno yet.

Stay tuned!

This exchanger I kept ranting about will chill 100 proof vodka for a cpu only loop. Basically using it instead of a radiator.

Dunno if this is condescending, but here is a diagram for people who are new to this (like I was..and still am =])

No news is good news I guess. Started working again this week at starbucks xD

Also physics test this coming tuesday so there probably won't be much work done over the weekend.

Trying to sell some stuff over on OCN to build up funds for another pump.

Any chiller veterans have recommendations for a good but inexpensive pump other than MCP655? If not I will just get another one of them (used hopefully, college budget is baring its teeth at me).

Man how did I miss this thread? :Dizzy: Nice setup man. Good luck on the fund raising! I had to get a 2nd job to support my needs. Back to working 64 hours a week again.

Ahh with it all frosted over I could not tell that there was a tube within a tube ther.. I thought the suction line was just copper vblaing wire holding stuff together :p lol

As far as the picture goes... I prefer to think of it as magic speed flashes not snowflakes

Cool...this is similar to what I paid for and never got.
A tube heat exchanger. It should work great. I'll be following this one.

Nice setup mate!

Wow sorry to hear that. I haven't had any free time to dedicate to this and my direct die unit as everything is going into studying, potential romance interest, exercising.. in that order O_o

Thanks! I still need to work on cleaning up my work and need to get away from recycling old tubing so much and managing the electricals better, definitely gives the whole thing a haphazard look even if everything works properly.

Again...don't give up hope! :D This isn't dead just kind of on the backburner at the moment. My prioritizing is paying off though, have A's in both physics and discrete math so far. We will see how things go though.
