Will 30 liters of LN2 be enough?
I have a welding supply store only 15 miles away so getting more will be easy. The guy said $45 for the 30 liters and $75 a year rental or $8.xx a month. $18 for delivery, but I'll just go get it.
How quickly can a freak like me use up 30 liters of LN2? Now I must either make a "POT", or maybe buy one. My uncle can make anything out of metal. How much is a good "POT"? |
30 LN2 is a good 8-12 hours on a CPU pot I think depending on chip used. Hotter the chip the less time it will last.
30L lasted me 2 sessions 3 days apart. (2nd was short though... only about 2 hours) I am a noob though... |
Wow that's pretty shitty.
The 180 liter is $1.50 a day rental and it weighs 700 pounds, but would look nice sitting in the garage. The 180 would probably last me a month. That would be ~$200 a month if I can make it last. 180 really wouldn't be too much LN2 at all. :ohcrap: |
A good pot will run you about $200
Used pots can be had for nearly half that. There's a good used F1 EE at XS for $125 right now 32L only lasted 4 hours on Gulftown my first time. |
You are on AMD so should not have to torch your pot and waste a lot of LN2. Also dont let your transfer cup stay empty too long, the more it warms up the more you lose to evaporation when you refill it.
I do imagine a 6GHz Thuban would be pushing towards the 6 hour time frame though LOL Once I have a steady stream of HW I am going to rent a 160L.... costs me $150 a month I think...? (came to 80 cents a liter plus $45 rental and $18 hazmat/delivery charge) My 30L cost me $70 bucks to go get filled :( |
Thanks for the info Gunslinger.
He told me .92 per liter for 180 liters...all other charges the same. Sounds like I could really go through some LN2. I need to get the bulk tank the welding supply guy has......lol:D EDIT: or marry his daughter. |
Less than $29.00 here to fill my 32l....I would shop around.
|
I'm sure I could get it cheaper if I wanted to drive ~45 miles one way to get it. Have to look around some and weigh the options.
|
Might be a good idea.
When you called was that OTC pricing or with an account? |
I don't have an account there yet.
|
Check Airgas and places like this! My dood fills my 30L for $20.
|
Things they don't tell you is they lose more than they sell. ;)
|
I'll have to check the Binghamton and Utica areas.

In my case once the guys got to know me the price dropped some. :good:
(Let them know what you are doing with it and it will intrigue them) |

Dude check with CryoWeld in Poughkeepsie, NY. (845) 473-3357 Thats where i get mine. 230L Dewar deliveered for $209. Plus a $66.00 mo rental fee. Don't mess with Airgas. Total crap Dewars from my experience.
Edit: IDK if they deliver to your area but its def worth a try. |
Thanks for the tip...I think that is too far away though. I found a place called Haun welding supply.....they said they'd match the $1.50 a day rental(down from the usual $2) and they have 165 liter tanks which cost $70 to fill. And they deliver on Tuesdays. That's only $115 ohh plus the delivery...shit
Airgas wants $125 just to fill a 180. |

These threads always make me want to move........
I can't believe the hoops I've had to jump through and the sweet talking I've done still gets me expensive LN2. |
