Anti-Virus Thread

i use gdata internet security :D if you browse alot...better get protection .... |
I use Kaspersky, which has always done a good job by me. I HATE Norton and find it hard to believe it scores better, but....
|
The more invasive it is on your system the better it will protect.
Personally I will stick with MSE. Its light weight I do not even notice it is installed except that once every 6 months I get a "virus detected" on some dodgy site LOL |

+1 for the avast. Can't stand the system pig known as Norton.
|
I used to use Avast. It is a decent program, better than AVG I also agree. Not nearly as invasive.
For paid I still like NOD32. |
eset failed LOL
1 trojan spread and fucked up 10 files...still cleaning my drive athe moment... |
NOD32 was really good in the past. Maybe u loosened security protocals too much :P
|
i set it to strict...hmmm good thing the trojan isn't as pesky as some virus...i'll have to rescan tonight..

Try an alternate browser for added security Opera is great and really lets you dial in the security easily No need for script block just tell Opera to do it... or ask if you want too.. etc I allow scripts and block 3rd party cookies... Hell Opera is a developers browser you can even build custom CSS to override anywebpage and make it look like what you want including text mode :) |

been looking at internet security 2011 ..this is usually with the anti-virus and internet protection...
1yr subscriptions: norton internet security 2011 - 70$ panda internet security 2011 - 70$ kaspersky internet security 2011 - 70$ f-secure internet security 2011 (24mo) - 99$ avg internet security 2011- 55$ big bucks....sheesh... |
so i got the panda....it was able to remove the 25 spyware...
eset didn't get the 25 spywares ...weird... the panda system tray icon looks kinda ok...lol |
surprised no one here uses Malwarebytes. That paired with Avast or Avira is pretty solid.
|
i tried malwarebytes before....i had a bad trojan that time...it couldn't remove it. malwarebyte+ccleaner was recommended by my company's it group.
eset was better that time. eset was able to remove it. these scanners are evolving. and the virus are evolving. i dunno. i just use what works. |
It's the chicken and the egg... a cycle... scanners evolve to beat the infections, and vice-versa...
Malware protection is meerly a crutch. I only use it on the lappy and the htpc, since others use it for God knows what. On the gamer and fileserver, AV/AS software can gtfo. I have yet to see any kind of infection just "jump" into a HDD.. it has to come from somewhere.... |
Call me a hippie but I don't use protection at all. I'm just careful where I stick my connection.
Safe surfing habits prevent 99% of malware. |
i'm stubborn...lol
i love this panda....makes my netbook sorta responsive..unlike eset... woooot |
I just use AVG free and never have or had any probs what so ever. If I were too, then I would restore my system image back to when I had a fresh install on my SSD. Ain't no way in hell I would pay for a virus protector.

Where I work now there are about 30 PCs. There are many different anti-virus/anti-malware programs installed. The company geek installs CA on any new PCs or laptops without any other protection (it must be cheap, as the subscription is good until 2015). I brought my own PC in and have Norton Internet Security 2010, so the geek left it alone. EVERY conputer there got infected by a variety of malware or viruses EXCEPT mine. To me, that says it all. From what I can tell the last controller there went to Facebook and U-Tube and a variety of other social sites, and he made sure he got the system infected before he was fired. The geek had to come in and clean out all the other PCs. CA, AVG, Malware-Bytes, Kaspersky, ZoneAlarm, and some others I can't remember never caught the problems until they were already infected. They all found the infections after they were updated and a new full system scan was run. My PC blocked the numerous (about 40 or so) infections from getting to my PC from the company network. While discussing this with the company controller and the geek, they commented on how Norton has always been a system hog etc etc......I asked them how long it has been since they tried it and they said many years. Case closed. This really made the controller question the protection they have in place. Starting with NIS 2009, Norton really improved. NIS 2010 gets "pulse" updates as new threats are found on any system with it installed, so it keeps you protected from very new threats. I am sure 2011 version will be excellent also. One cpy installs on three PCs, so it's really pretty cheap. As Kal noted, if you watch where you go on the internet you are probably going to be OK (sleep with the dogs you get the fleas). All the old timers always say they hate Norton, but how come all the other anti-virus programs compare themselves to Norton? HMMMMM? I had NIS installed on every system I ever ran a benchmark on. I don't have any world records, but I did alright with a "system hog".
|
microsoft bought mcafee....
as for norton being a hog....upgrade your hardware...they're top notch but ...i'm using a netbook so i won't be using norton on this netbook...panda suite me best... based from independent testers norton and panda rank really high... |

I'm with Kal on this one...have not used anything in years. ;)
|
yesterday night i had a weird browser feeling...one site went to an ad.
panda internet security did not catch it. switched to webroot internet security trial. full scan caught some spy ware. thru cookies. i think i'll stick with this for a while. also here's a browser specific trojan http://hardocp.com/news/2010/10/09/t...your_passwords |
okay testing webroot's internet security ..is good.
safe browsing...blocks almost everything. cool lol |
my os has a possible rootkit virus. everything tried.
backup files....will reinstall tinyxp on netbook. |
Im using years now the avira antivir.
who said free stuff is not good :P |
i use AVG free edition for years already, never had a problem, and if i have one, i just format and do a fresh install.
fresh instal i normally do always after 2 a 3 months |
