850w enough juice?

Looking at getting a new PSU for my benching rig. Currently running a Corsair HX620w and its time to go bigger. I do understand that the psu isn't a place to skimp but I am on a shoe string budget at the moment.

So, will this Corsair AX850 handle the load of some Dice/LN2 action and a couple of GPUs in Crossfire/SLI without skipping a beat?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9015&Tpk=ax850

Or hould I step it up to this 1000w?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...007&Tpk=hx1000

Or should I just save up for an overkill 1200w-1500W PSU?

Or, bear with me, should I run dual PSU's. 850w for Mobo/GPU's and 620w for all other aux stuff like, fans, pumps, hdds, ect...........

My brain is like a pretzel right now :Dizzy:

Thanks,
OCM

The 1000w Corsair you have linked is modular.

Nice catch, I ment fully modular. *Edited*

hx1000 is not good imo

as for 850w.....best is the hx850....

ax850 is ok..but the hx850 is better for oc...

Dual psu's are also cool if you're running a water setup. take the un-needed strain off your main rig. I never use my main psu for any water cooling pumps, fans, etc. and i have a 1200w Pc power&cooling main psu.

Ok, so does the HX850W have enough juice for benching stable on Dice/LN2 with a couple of of GPU's in the loop? And just keep the HX620W for all other duties.

Negative. The AX is the superior PSU. The two are actually almost identical except the AX has a higher efficiency rating and generates less heat overall. Slightly less line ripple on the AX also.

So will a quality 850w PSU have enough juice to bench stable on DICE/LN2? pullhair:deadhorse::confused2:

Depends on the setup.

Mobo:?
CPU:?
GPU:?
HDD:?

OC Maximus 10-02-2010 01:36 PM

AM3 Mobo
1090T/965BE
2x 5770's

For starters

The HX620W can take the duties of everything else. Pump, Fans, HDD, ect......

I guess a better question would be, what can I expect a quality 850w psu to handle?

the ripple from both of the differs from 18mv -25mv ....thats almost zero difference...
vregs need stable 12v and fast response...the cwt based hx850 has good TR

also the hx850 has a tighter voltage regulation than the ax850...
hx850 0-100 only drops 60mV
ax850 0-100 drops 230mV

efficiency doesn't mean much....both psus can do 85% on full load...

your hardware isn't power hungry...you're alright with the hx850w

I would think the 850W will be more than enough until you start LN2ing both GPUS as well ;) Even then it might be enough...

I am running a 750W corsair for a 920 (not DIced yet) and a beefy 4890 cold air benched :) Had problems with a low Q 650W though.

I am not a fan of corsair PSUs overall... but they get the job done. My complaints are with the connectors they use (oversized IMHO broke a fan controller and thought I was going to break a video card with two different units)

I think the psu is the one area of investment you don't skimp on, personally. Motherboards, procs, gpu's come and go like the wind, but the psu is loyal to the cores.

Ordered a new Antec 1200. Hope she's up to the task. Thank you everyone for your help. ;)

I sure hope so. Do you have any experience with it?
