Rampage 3 Issues
Any tips for clocking this board?
I managed to grab a 234 CPUZ screeny the other day, and can run pcmark up to 222 BCLK HTT disabled. (same enabled) 224 gives me a variety of errors, from 0x124 (VTT) ox101 (vcore) or it just restarts. USually at the CPU tests, but sometimes at hte irst or second tests. Rog connect has been pretty accurate for temps, compared to realtemp. Although it measures lowest core not highest and realtemp sees a single core hitting up to 70C temps. the rest seem to stay right at what the ASUS software says 45-50C. HC said that you cant pass 222 BCLK on air on the ASUS boards (I assume he meant benchable, as even my first x58 benched 222 that cost $100 18 months ago on air). Was going to keep this board for future USB3/SATA3 reviews and ditch the classy, but if it can't clock, I can't justify that. Any tips? I tried playing with some of the other settings. running them auto, high, low whatever. Oh.. added fans to IOH and ICH so no more BIOS corruption issues. Although they still run warm considering ambient. |
when did i say you can't 222 on asus boards? lol
with the 32nm you can.... with the 45nm ...its hard...you have to push the vtt .... ditch the evga :D |
slow mode for qpi, or lotsa pci-e mhz
|
Thats it? Will give it a try tonight when the temp drops :)
Thinking maybe my chip is just degrading :( |
whats your
vtt? uncore frequency? |
yeah slow mode for max bclk but sucks for 3d but thats what let me get passed 225 bclk and pci-e 115mhz is what i used on my other asus mb i had i think i been up to 250-60 bclk on the r3e/980x just in slow mode
|
I was running 109 and 111 PCIE speeds will try 115 and 120 later. Thought I could get to it tonight, but ready for bed and thought I would hit up my forums first.
uncore left at auto or manually set to twice mem, I even tried bumping it up one notch. VTT I need 1.35 for 220 stability I have tried up to 1.5 though with no luck. I tested max QPI the other day and settled in around a 8.6GTs so should have plenty of room... I tried slow mode and 240 BCLK with 19x cpu multi and it would not even post. There is something else missing. Going to shelve it for now, no more X58 benches for me till I can go cold I guess. |
1.35 jumping to 1.5 is not good.... be careful with vtt adjustments.
1.5 is too much...on air 1.35v is not optimum if your uncore is 4000mhz or above you have to do it one step at a time. |

I say they are ~ equal boards. |

i said get the evga board cause of its crazy price.... the evga is really good even for beginners as lots have already used it and have knowledge using it. ... i said ditch evga... after i realized that evga prolly won't sponsor overclocking events anymore... shammy gave away an sr2 for our team...that is very generous on his part. shammy parted with evga. so chances of getting another competition from evga is i dunno. ... i had lots of fun with the evga...just look at my i920 results...those were with dice... top20 runs :D |

Yeah I would keep the classified and dump the R3F but I need it for other features (USB3 now, but SATA3 soon enough). Just want to make sure I also have the capability to pull it out of the box and beat the crap out of it. Cant bench it past 222 yet, although posted up a 234 screeny the other day on air, link fast ENABLED.
First attempts at link fast disabled = no increase in clockability and worse performance across the board (lost 3-4 seconds in the 8M superpi contest). So might have to chalk it up to the CPU. |
I was tempted on the R3E .... but passed and saving for 1st quarter of 2011
My 760 does a good job, only if I had a decent CPU My golden 920 went up in smoke................ |
I've got this board but I havn't tested for max bclk yet (~220 max so far).
@Neuromancer... I read your review at techreaction and I've also noticed what you described as "weak" dimm slots on my board especially with my Mushkin kit. 3 dimms installed and sometimes only two show up as available. I haven't notice that problem however with my other two kits but I'm going to monitor it more closely now. |
Yeah I do not know if it is a product of the new Dimm clip arrangements, doubtful since I have not seen anyone mention it before, or just a QC issue.
The hyperX t1s are big and heavy rams. Not my first kit of big n heavy and certainly not my last lol. First board that when I pushed them in went "uh oh" though. |
