I think I bricked my DFI LP UT Ultra-D

I think I must have reinstalled the chipset HS so that it shorted something out.......is the only thing that makes any sense to me. I took everything apart and let it sit overnight to no avail.

Any suggestions? :keeporder:.........currently hunting for another board that I cannot afford.

DrNip 12-08-2010 04:18 AM

What are the symptoms? Does it even power on, does power on but only posts to a certain point or what?

ny_driver 12-08-2010 04:39 AM

All I get is the standby LED. No POST at all...no beeps or anything.

EDIT: and I'm sure the chipset cooler is on there evenly now.

Hondacity 12-08-2010 04:41 AM

you can remove the motherboard heatsinks and just check if it can post...

ny_driver 12-08-2010 05:22 AM

Just as dead with no HS on the chipset..........ohh well it's not as bad as bringing home a wrecked snowmobile.

The guy I got it from suggested baking it at 350 for 15 minutes.....isn't that what you do with a GPU?

DrNip 12-08-2010 05:36 AM

Have reset the CMOS as well as pulled the battery and let it sit for awhile without the battery in?

Hondacity 12-08-2010 05:53 AM

350F ...thats where some solder melts..lmao..he's an idiot.....when i say melt...components will fall off.

Common solder alloys are mixtures of tin and lead, respectively:
  • 63/37: melts at 183 °C (361 °F) (eutectic: the only mixture that melts at a point, instead of over a range)
  • 60/40: melts between 183–190 °C (361–374 °F)
  • 50/50: melts between 185–215 °C (365–419 °F)

Yup I let it sit all night but you know what I haven't tried and am going to right now is another cpu. BRB.

And I didn't follow his advice....I figured I should ask first.

EDIT: not the cpu.

What do the 4 red LED's stop on?

GFDuke 12-08-2010 11:37 PM

So does that mean you wont get to bench that FX55? bummer.

Mr. Scott Has your team inherited the Pure logo for your bot sig? looool

Well, unless a new BIOS chip helps this one out.....I won't be benching it on this board. I have another board(tyan tomcat nf4 ultra), but it will only give up 1.57v
Does anyone think I could have just FUBARRED the BIOS on the Ultra-D or would that be just a pipe dream?

I am on the hunt for a replacement Ultra-D or something that will provide me with adequate vcore and vdimm. I know a guy who has 2 of them and was going to sell me one awhile ago, just haven't heard back from him yet.

Mr.Scott 12-09-2010 03:12 AM

Check your pm's. It's a borked bios chip.

@ Duke- PURE?.......hardly. lol
We would hook up with you guys first. Or at least, I would.:)

GFDuke 12-09-2010 03:20 AM

LMAO was joking bro.

Mr.Scott 12-09-2010 05:20 AM

I know man, but I was serious. If anything were to happen to CP, I'd be here in a second if you'd have me.

GFDuke 12-09-2010 06:49 AM

Of course we would.
