2500k vs 2600k
Since these seem to be best for helping 2d scores and 3dmark01 and maybe 05 is there a point to spending more for HT on benchmarks we might not need it for? Big price difference and im poor. lmk if there is something else i dont think they are binned higher...
|
2600 also has 2MB more cache.
I thought I saw some benchmarks that made a nice improvement because of the cache but I can not find them at the minute. EDIT: Regardless the 2500K does seem to be the point to purchase for non benching. With the right mods they are clocking the same as the 2600K. pifast alone is going to worth a few points :) |
i want SB to by no funds... but i wanna see whats going to replace the 1366 and how thats going to be
|
wouldn't that going to be 2011 dom!
btw splave post some pix of you guys in the sin city will ya =D |
I hear ya on the poor part as I had to liquidate hardware to afford my newest setup. I went with the 2600k. Mine will be mostly for your everday web cruiser and game player so I could have probably been fine with the 2500k but my inner hardware devil told me to buy the 2600k. I do have plans of doing some benching with it though, its just I don't have the time to do this as I thought I would. Dunno if there is much difference but I wanna say I read something kinda like what Neuromancer was talking about. Think it was over at Xtreme or something.

benching perspetive..you got a bullseye , splave
too late i got the 2600k lol |

Here are some #'s on a 2600k with and without HT. I believe the without HT would be the same as a 2500k but with 2 more mb's of cache? So if the difference is that much just between the 2600k with and without HT then I would assume it would at least be this much difference if not more between the 2600k and 2500k.
Attachment 4262 That's a pretty big difference on wprime and vantage. Wish there was one showing all the Bot point benches. |
That is the first time I have ever seen X3 benefit from HT
And trust me. I have seen a lot of X3 results .................... :taunt: http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/t307081.html |
I do think the 2600k is the winner out of this as it is going to be the best CPU released from Intel for at least a few months maybe which means everybody in the g-ma will own this and submit it to the bot. That means more boints in the end. :D I think it will be up there with the great boint makers like the 920, e8600, q6600, etc.
|
Yeah, its looking like the 2600K will be a good bointer and great for 3D01.
OCM  |
After the dust settles will that mean anything with the new Bot ?

Splave for you it might not mean much, because your wprime scores are up the roof, but for other general overclockers like me, 2600k's wprime 32m and wprime 1024m will get/is getting good boints in the 4 core category.
Edit : Looks like I was mistaken, its lagging way behind, Oh, its efficiency is showing in superpi/pifast but lagging way behind in wprime |
For wprime 1024M the 2600K with crappy RAM performs 2.5 seconds slower than the BEST i7 920 both at 5.288
Not sure how much mem makes a differnce in wprime. Triple channel might be huge, but all the submissions so far on the 2600K are at 1600-1800 8-8-8 or 9-9-9 Once guys learn to tune them up... I think we will see better efficiency. TBH I am surprised it is that close though. What surprises me more is that the 2500K is holding its own against the 2600K in pifast and spi. I thought cache was king for those short tests. |
^me too
|
Well my 2500K chip just arrived. I gotta run out though so it wont be getting installed till tomorrow :(
Hopefully ASUS has a the CPUPLL overvolt option in the new BIOS. It is an ES so keeping my Fingers crossed with the BIOS update I might really be able to smack it around :) |
Let me know how you make out with what ever board you are using.
I just got my 2600K Batch # L040B705 Figure we might as well start early trying to team bin these batch numbers .......... Going with a ATX instead of a Micro now ..... :Dizzy: Been doing a lot of reading but so far liking the UD5 for single card and the UD7 for multiple cards UD7 has ther 16x slots effed up IMO 16x16x8x8x I would have thought it would have been better to stager them for two card set ups giving them some breathing room |
mine is L040HCED
|
I'm really waffling here. Not sure I even want to jump on this platform yet. 1155 sounds waaay too close to 1156 for my comfort. :scared:
|
me too man, im thinking lightning 275 and 1155 could be epic sauce though..

L041B229 here.

despite of lack of L3 cache seems that 2500K performs exactly like 2600K in all single thread benchmarks.
give a look at these 2 links: 3dmark 03 and 05: http://www.overclockzone.com/zolkorn...ge/index11.htm super-pi 32M: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...-review-9.html super-pi 32M efficiency: 2600K || 3800 * 563,408 =2140950,4 2500K || 3700 * 570,663 = 2111453,1 2500K seems a pretty good deal if you are looking for single thread benchmarks. sorry if link from other sites aren't allowed but i don't have in my hand these new cpus, so i've no way to make a comparison... :) would be great if someone that have both cpus can make a comparison for us waffling guys :D |
Good stuff there.
|
too late got 2600 comming lol
|
Me too jumping onto the SB bandwagon....hopefully my luck would shine in 2011....
|
One week since release and already 1045 submissions at the bot for the 2600k. :D
