Nip/Tuck

Well I thought it was time to go ahead and start a thread on this little o machine I have been working on the past few weeks. It is a week or two a way from being complete. All it is lacking is RAM, which should be here in the next day or two and a GTX 580 which should come the 1st week of February. My goal was to build a machine little, compact and freaking powerful. I got tired of big, over the top cases. This case is just big enough to fit a GTX 580 and that is it. No room to spare. Enough talk time for a few pics.
Not going to reveal the case yet but here are a couple sneak peeks if you will. Had to throw some paint on the inside to make it match the outside of the case. Ya'll are free to guess what it is if you like. Attachment 4362 Attachment 4363 And now for some pics of the mobo/CPU/RAM. The RAM is being switched out due to not being compatible. Too bad as I would have loved to run it. Two more Xigmatek XLF 120mm PWM Fans. Asus 24x DVD burner hidden up top there. Yes I painted it black too! ROFL Attachment 4371 Still more to come... |
wow very nice..psu clears the cpu cooler fan?
what case is that? ist small ish |
Clearance of PSU and CPU fan is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/2" - 3/4". Not much I tell ya. I am a little worried about this but have plans of either a Coolit or Corsair H60 watercooling setup if this is a problem.

Looks sick Travis.
Nice work bro........ Can't wait to see this build come full circle .. All bad on my end :ohcrap: |
Nice Nip :)
Looks a bit like some Brand Name PC cases from a while back. Early 2000 era IBM before they went all super SFF. IIRC |
2600k ftw!
|
ooOOOoooOOH I like
|
Looks pretty sweet. I just built a similar yet much less expensive box for someone that looked kind of like yours. Small black case and micro ASUS board with blue trim anyways.
|
Nice case :D
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811163164 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811163159 Can't figure out which one.... |
Haha Chuchnit you are sooooo close but no cigar. Guess again.
|
Sweet looking rig. I bet you the 2600K is dying to see some LN2. :D

No it is their newest. I'm telling you you were so close. It is Silverstone. I did want an all aluminum case but couldn't find one that met my criteria. This one has an aluminum front and metal shell. I'll post some pics of it tonight.

Bazinga! You sir are a winner. Dunno how you didn't see it over at the egg? Man I love this case. It is about half the size of a mid tower.

Few more pics. Look how little it is compared to the Cooler Master Storm Scout mid size tower! ROFL
This case had everything I was looking for in a case. It had to be clean, small/compact, light and have a carrying handle. Attachment 4381 Attachment 4382 Attachment 4383 Attachment 4384 Attachment 4385 Attachment 4386 |
Not bad. Does the PSU mount with Fan towards the side panel or the CPU cooler. I can never remember what part the offset screw is on a psu lol
DUH I have one next to me lol Very nice. Cant wait to see the temp results :) |
I believe you can mount it either way. I chose for the fan to be towards the side panel window. I have a feeling though I will be going with a watercooling setup in the end.
|
Man 580 is gonna be TIGHT!! You sure it'll fit?
|
Yep. :D
|
Everything is up and running. Talk about different. I can tell you right now this CPU heatsink isn't going to cut it. Temps idle at 3.4ghz are 50 degrees!!! Prolly weould have been better off running without a cooler. ROFL

H70 does a decent job but not top notch by any means ....
tight build bro .... |

Attachment 4401 Attachment 4402 Attachment 4403 Attachment 4404 Attachment 4405 Attachment 4406 Definitely decided to order a water cooling setup. Dunno if I can wait until the H60 drops in two months so will prolly go with the Coolit or Corsair H70. Dunno if the H70 will fit though. Also going to order some more fans as I'm not impressed with the airflow or lighting on these. |
Holy power supply Batman!
|
They are the stix I asked G.Skill to send me back as they are out of the ones I am returning for RMA,
Thing is beastly bro ............ |
Haven't tested them out yet beyond installing and turning the computer on. Sure they are nice though. Cas 6 @ 1600 with only 1.5volts = win for me.
I have an old 2xxx series ATi card in there for now to get me by until my GTX580 is ordered. Didn't have much time last night or this morning to get to know the computer. Had it at 4.7ghz this morning so at least it isn't a dud so far. Sunday looks to be my best time to really get to know it. |
they will do 7-10-7-27 @ 2000 I would bet
|
OK, this CPU cooler isn't happening and is getting thrown off the I-40 bridge when my new Coolit ECO gets here. Can't wait 2 months for the H60 to go retail. Ordered some new fans too as these aren't jiving either. Temps were 80 degrees idle at 5ghz!!!
|
ouch...stock cooler ftw :D
|
The thought has crossed my mind to put it on.
|
Can't call it with this platform. Updated my BIOS to 601 and now when I disable CPU C6 Report I can't multi clock in Windows. I enable it and I can. Not to mention when enabled my Control Panel -> High Performance trick doesn't work anymore. CPU will downclock to 16 multi as well as volts downclock. Don't know if OS is reporting wrong but CPUz and Asus Suite II are both showing 16 multi but realtemp is showing 32-34 multi. Multi is set at 38 in BIOS. Fixing to roll back BIOS to original.
|
Ahh that is strange,
The High preformance trick works for me in XP but not Win 7 :Dizzy: Asus I hope addresses all these weird problems.... |
Oh and PS2 mouse quit working as well with 601 BIOS for me.
|
Did you try the gambit or just revert to shipped BIOS ?
|
Won't let me revert back to any other bios. Keeps giving message that image is out of date.
|
That is bull shit !!!
Did you try 413 ? |
Tried everyone of them. 405, 413 and 414. Sick of this downclocking bullshit. Give me a mobo that doesn't have those features. Also sick of this +/- voltage crap. Give me a mobo that 1.3v is 1.3v in the BIOS. Tired of having to pull out a calculator to calculate what my voltage is if I set it to -.25 or something in the BIOS. Maybe I'm just frustrated talking but damn.

I'm quiting my focus on Windows overclocking and working on BIOS, or excuse me, EUFI clocking since this is mainly going to be an everyday, gamer pc. So far 4.5ghz stable at 1.27v. Think I can get more BCLK at them volts.
Here are some pics with Coolit ECO and Akaska fans in. I had to do some extensive modding to the fan casing and front clip piece to get the radiator and bottom 120mm fan to fit. Nothing a rotary tool couldn't handle. Temps are lovely now. Also switched my HDD and SSD around. Threw the SSD in a SDD mount with plans of getting another one on top of it for my benching drive.
