Proposed Gamer

Threw some parts together this afternoon to test how they gamed online. All went smoothly on the Vista 64 install. I most likely in the end will only use one 5970 so I can have my sound card installed...framerates are ridiculous anyway. ;)

Biostar TP67B+ mb
Intel 2600K cpu
2 x 5970 gpu

wheres the bench marks :scared:

nice cards

rickss69 02-12-2011 08:58 PM

Benchmarks have no correlation to online gaming. I did see nearly 600fps in BlackOp's tho...:taunt:

kikicoco1334 02-12-2011 10:45 PM

i'd love to take some of that from you when ever you are ready for find a new family for all your toys lol

DrNip 02-13-2011 01:46 AM

Tell me a little about that water cooling setup there.

Witchdoctor 02-13-2011 02:03 AM

Nice gaming rig,

Looks like you are all set for Crysis 2

That would be one of my Boreas TEC units Nip. One of the finest cooling solutions ever produced in my opinion.

No longer manufactured by Coolit WD. That is why I started snapping them up off ebay and such. I have three of them atm. :D

Witchdoctor 02-13-2011 04:10 AM

That explains it,

can't figure out why they would stop offering these with the preformance level being so good.

you would think they would be flying off the shelves ???

rickss69 02-13-2011 04:21 AM

They were pricey and not easily incorporated into everyday pc's.

DrNip 02-13-2011 04:24 AM

HA the thought of it being a TEC didn't even cross my mind. Nice. I member those. Real pricey they were. Why do you have three of them?

rickss69 02-13-2011 04:32 AM

I bought these because they are no longer offered and remain the King of cooling for 24/7 use.

Splave 02-13-2011 04:39 AM

hey rick why vista and why x64? was going to say why 2x5970 unless you have an eyefinity setup or something ;)

Lol! This was just a test and Vista was the first disc I layed hands on. As stated in post #1 I will most likely go with one video card to free up space for my sound card. :)

Splave 02-13-2011 05:10 AM

10-4 :)

rickss69 02-13-2011 06:24 AM

One 5970 and sound card installed - Looks and sounds great!

rickss69 02-13-2011 06:52 AM

Think this qualifies to reside in the former "Weapons Grade" domicile?

Splave 02-13-2011 06:59 AM

you know the answer ;)

DrNip 02-13-2011 07:58 AM

rickss69 02-13-2011 08:29 AM

Guess they figured what the market would bear...

Witchdoctor 02-13-2011 08:34 AM

got black ops for 50 ....

HybridChiller 02-20-2011 05:01 AM

I have three of them Hybrid - Two with aftermarket pumps and one with a stock pump. I can tell no real difference between them. Same goes for the waterblocks.

EDIT: I forgot I have four of them now. :taunt:

HybridChiller 02-20-2011 06:47 AM

i change cpu block, give me some extra °C lower, changed the coolingpaste between the peltier plates gives me few °C lower.
But a pump to fast did give me worse temps, think the liquid doesn't get the time to cool down.
The internal of those alu block can be better, i'm looking to make new ones and better ones.

what kind of pump from coolit you mounted here on the boreas ?

http://i52.tinypic.com/23lcgp0.jpg

rickss69 02-20-2011 11:30 PM

The pump pictured above is a second revision stock version. Same as the first, just less noise I think.

rickss69 02-20-2011 11:39 PM

I have settled on the Biostar mb and one 5970 for the gamer. The below benchmark was with the card on air...I may put it on the Boreas loop if for nothing else than to just rid myself of the fan noise. The Biostar is not a Micro mb so I can't use it in the former Weapons Grade case. I have a LianLi case due here this morning which I may use instead. I will post some pic's of it when it arrives.

HybridChiller 02-21-2011 04:54 AM

can't get the SB higher ?

rickss69 02-22-2011 09:39 PM

The LianLi case finally arrived and I loosely fitted the parts together for a trial spin. Along with the case Coolit sent me a couple of extra parts...a Vantage cpu cooler and a Omni gpu cooler. The Omni has a 5870 backplate so I will not be using that here. I had intended to use a Boreas TEC in this rig until I saw the Vantage unit... I decided to give it a chance. So far these are the parts installed:

LianLi PC-P50 case
Biostar TP67B+ mb
Intel 2600K cpu
4GB GSkill DDR3 2000
Silverstone Decathalon 1000w psu
Coolit Vantage cpu cooler
Lite-On DVD burner
Sapphire 5970 gpu
WD 1TB hdd
SuperTalent 32GB ssd
Silverstone HDDBoost
Creative X-Fi sound card

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...Ligamer004.jpg

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...Ligamer005.jpg

The Omni gpu cooler which will not be used here...
http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...Ligamer008.jpg

If I intend to use the Vantage unit I will have to do some surgery to the top panel so it will fit around the rad/fans...
http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...Ligamer007.jpg

I was skeptical of the Vantage cooler at first, but after some online gaming and benchmarks at 4.5GHz I was impressed with the little unit's performance. I'm thinking I will roll with it for this gamer.

rickss69 02-23-2011 06:16 AM

I really see no need for me to run it any harder than this...it nets me nothing in online gaming that I can tell...

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...anLimemory.jpg

Witchdoctor 02-23-2011 07:41 AM

Nice work man,

I would agree, 4.5 is way kool for gaming ...

That is what I plan to run mine at when I get a board .........

should have held onto the WS till new boards were availible :ohcrap:

Now it is the waiting game for me .....

Chuchnit 02-23-2011 07:42 AM

Killer setup Rick

Neuromancer 02-23-2011 07:57 PM

Nice rick.. why do you have hyperthreading on. doesn't that hurt most RW performance? Especially games?

(If I asked that before just ignore me.. my 920 I ran at low low voltage disabled HTT and let i run cool and easy... only thing I could tell it suffered on was that video encoding app.. Handbrake..

Not tried it out...I will give it a go for effect. :)

EDIT: A little cooler with HT off, but no real difference in online gaming.

rickss69 02-25-2011 05:59 AM

Revised the Vantage mount and removed the two top fans so I could fit the top cover without any further butchery. Good news it it didnt seem to effect temps much at all.

http://i434.photobucket.com/albums/q...gamer004-1.jpg

Oh, did I mention the ridiculous frame rates? :taunt:

rickss69 02-25-2011 08:03 AM

I'm through with this...on to gaming. Nothing fancy or artful, just a solid game rig.
