hey

Hey, I just joined.

OCM and i were talking over at OCN around the time of SB launch, and he suggested i check out this site. Finally got arround to it.

So yea.

I like overclocking.

I have a F1 gemini, and no GPU pots at the moment. My favorite thing to bench in Phenom II because of how epicly they scale in the cold. Intel is fun too.

Stuff that i currently own that i am benching:
-i7 860+P55-gd80
-Phenom 955+TA890FXE (i also did a few runs on the athlon)

My best OC is 5.578GHz on an i5 650 using dry ice. link

My favorite benchmarks are 01 and superpi. Wprime is fun too.

My HWbot is in my sig. Not very good yet, but i am working on it.

My everyday rig consists of:
-Athlon II 240 (planning on getting a 955)
-2GB OCZ ddr2
-Foxconn destroyer
-GTX 590 (still in the mail) currently a 6870
-TX750 psu

And i live in california. That's about it.

Is XP really that much better for SPi?

I know for wprime it is, but it seems about the same for spi on w7.

yea, i am still new at this, still learning a lot of stuff. (just did my first run in December)

GeorgeStorm 04-17-2011 11:53 AM

Welcome to the forum
Some nice results considering you've only been at it for couple of months
Loads of knowledge here, anything you want to know, ask and I bet atleast 1 person will have the answer straight away :)

WPrime is definitely not better on XP. ;) Welcome aboard.

Kal-EL 04-19-2011 06:02 PM

All my wprime/spi runs are on xp. :)

OC Maximus 04-19-2011 06:39 PM

xp here too

Spank 04-19-2011 11:59 PM

Yes wprime gives me better results on xp than 7x64 but i havent test it on vista yet

ny_driver 04-20-2011 01:47 AM

Well, I get several minutes faster times in (edited)1024m and up to ~ a minute faster in (edited)32m using Tiny7x32....at least on socket 939.

Never tested with a more modern socket. I just ran it in 7 on my 920 too.

EDIT: now I will have to go home and run some WPrime on the 920 with xp and 7..............it seems kinda strange/illogical that more modern hardware would give better results using an older OS when older hardware gives better results using a newer OS.

ny_driver 04-20-2011 04:52 PM

I tested it on the 920 with everything set to defaults and OS in normal mode. TinyXPx32 wins by quite a bit over Tiny7x32on this platform. Avg of ~.4 sec in 32m, and ~8 sec in 1024m.

Must be an anomoly of the socket 939 architecture. Sure am glad I figured that out. ;)

Of course it couldn't be that you're doing something wrong.:D
XP is faster on the 939's also.

ny_driver 04-21-2011 01:40 PM

I beg to differ. :D See below examples.
And check out the other 6 golds I have in wprime if you need more proof.:taunt:

EDIT: Believe me I ran them all in XP first and was 4-5 seconds slower.

OC Maximus 04-21-2011 02:30 PM

xp is still faster :D :taunt:

ny_driver 04-21-2011 02:51 PM

It is on my 920, but it isn't on any of the 17 socket 939 chips I've benched.
I was in anywhere from like 5th to 9th place in those benches until I switched to Tiny7 and took the golds by an average of A LOT.:D

OC Maximus 04-21-2011 03:08 PM

Noice!

reflex99 04-22-2011 08:12 PM

gold cups are fun stuff.

I had one...for about a month.

(of course i was the only submission in that catergory, but it is the effort that counts right?)

HybridChiller 04-22-2011 08:26 PM

indeed gold cups are fun, i was hunting for them for a month lol.

Now when my girl has work, then i'm going to hunt for global points ;)

You must choose your battles carefully. :deadhorse:
Actually I just got lucky and was already into socket 939 pretty heavily when I started benching. Not too many people becnhing 939s these days so I may keep some gold medals awhile. :cool3:

Hahahaha........right. You would think that's how it should work. The hardware masters seem to go in cycles on what platform they will bench. 939 is coming soon. They're working 462's right now.

ny_driver 04-23-2011 04:00 AM

Good thing I'm keeping my cpus, and already have plans to pour LN2 on each of them for good measure. :)

I say best of luck to the hardware masters or whoever tries to beat my scores. ;)
