Daily Driver.....almost ready
There isn't really a "right section" to put this in so general discussion it is. Build log with proper pics incoming probably.... well as soon as I get the final parts. I got one of the last pieces in for my build. I would like to thank Splave, Neuromancer, hokiealumnus and Bogmali for killer deals on my used parts.
What I have now:
What I need:
The megahalems I have just isn't gonna cut it. It's too thick to use even a 25mm fan in push config with tall memory. In pull the stupid whine makes me want to poke my eyeballs out with a spoon! Anybody have input on which aircooler to get? All I'm going to say is that I'll never cheap out on a case again. The little things totally make a quality case worth the extra price. Silverstone or Lian Li from now on. |
I love the venomous :)
|
Looking forward to some pics
Considered an all in one water solution? h70/new antec kuhler 920? Although, gonna be honest, seems a bit overkill for a daily driver? I mean, what do you use it for? Surely money could be saved there and spent on benching ;) |
Venomous in my daily driver ;)

Looks like its going to be a hell of a rig :)
|
H50 is a very good and quiet choice for the cpu cooling + is kinda watercooling solution for better temperatures.
|
I'm confused what's wrong with them? :p
Strap on some decent fans and they can beat pretty much anything else out there? Although, by the amount of money you must have spent on this rig, why not go with a full water loop? |

Umm I haven't really studied the Corsair/Antec coolers, but from what I glanced at when they launched, good air is as good or better. Plus the look just doesn't go with my taste. The VX is cheaper and looks hella good imo. |
Fair play about cost, I got my H70 for £45 including 2 fans, whereas the VX is 40 on it's own, and ofcourse wouldn't fit in my case :P
Make sure you get a decent fan, can make or break any air cooler. |

Wow thats crazy! Don't fault you at all for dismissing it then!
The scythes are meant to be pretty decent, what models you going for? If I were spending that much on a fan, I'd go for atleast the 3000rpm ;) I know what you mean about 140mm fans, there just aren't really any decent ones :/ Can't go wrong with a couple of Samsung F4s for mass storage ;) |
I'll probably go 1450rpm or 1850rpm honestly. I have a trusty S-Flex for the CPU cooler to tide me over until I make up my mind. :) I'm thinking F4 2TB actually ;) They are just so darn cheap vs the 5400rpm 3TB Hitachi.
|
Yeah, picked one up 2nd hand (you're probably sensing a theme with my computer purchases :P) for £40, very pleased with it so far.
Scythes are a safe bet for fanage :p |
I've bought about half of my parts second hand albiet they are all practically new. Its saved a ton of money. Plus I offset the cost a great deal by selling stuff. The build isn't nearly as expensive as it looks. :)
|
It's the way forward, I don't buy anything new anymore.
I don't think I own anything I bought new, apart from a HDD, and DVD drive :p |
How about some pics..........

Looks like it is shaping up .... Lian Li Nice bro ..... once you have one there is no going back to Antec .............. |
Agreed totally! Its the little details and overall quality that makes Lian worth it. Its my first one and I will never buy anything from now on. Well Lian Li and silverstone.
|
Cases are soooooo overrated :P

my kids like to get my stuff also but i have my rig on the desk or table.... and make sure nothings hanging cuz the lil one well pull on it  |
Pics are coming soon. I started this thread for two reasons and neither of which were to show pics. First, the forum was dead the past couple days. Second, I figured I would go ahead and take my bashing for being a pansy and building a cased build. :P
|
I just built a cased build as well ... Sandy puts out day and night and on thru morning ..... She does not get pissed if you forget to call the next day either. The least you can do is put some cloths on her when you are not riding her hard |
Nice! I loved my AX850 when I had it. Both of them actually, lol. Would trade this Silverstone in for another any time! The AX850 only ran the fan when needed which cut back on noise. Nice to see people getting back into case builds again.

What, no pics.....
just kidding :D Lian Li's are pimp! |
