I did this today and when it made the iso it removed all the autorun stuff.... will it still boot on a fresh install?

Well it is about time as I have been asking around about this. Little did I know you had the secret formula.

The operating system should load after you've installed it using the iso burned to disk.

autorun shouldnt interfere with the operating system loading. The iso needs to be burnt to a disk and then use the disk to install the operating system.

I know all that bro, I should have been more clear... I was just worried about if it will boot or not when trying to install it for the first time. It doesn't have the setup.exe or any of that junk.

Well, it all depends. Normally, it'll just install like any other Windows installation cd. If you've removed something essential to the installation then you'll know right away because duh, it won't install.

Just try it on an old or spare HDD to find out. Report back :D and stop being a chicken, just do it! bawk bawk bawk.

LOL.... I just didn't have one available at the time. I just put it in my old rig and it looks like it will boot just fine. I just thought you might know off the top of your head if nlite removes that stuff on purpose.

So when I get this rig together i'm going to do XP and then Start over with Vista, so should I start with the 32bit and then move to 64bit or just skip 32 bit all together?

If you wanna run a dual boot or multi boot, install the oldest operating system first to the newest. So if you were gonna use all of them it'd be in this order:

xp32........xp64........vista32........vista64 or

xp32........vista32......vista64 or

xp32.......vista64

Long as its oldest to newest, you shouldnt have any problems. Just make sure you create the partitions using each installation disk, don't pre-partition, it'll go easier this way.

Well.... I got two hardrives so I could switch between xp and vista, I was just wondering if benching with the 32bit OS's was even worth wasting the time basically... I mean as far as the bot goes anyway?

There you will find a general rule of thumb based off of one users experiments and the agreement of several others that basically these operating systems benefit the accompanied benchmark.

Sweet thanks bud! So if I read right... while i'm running XP I need not even bother using both video cards (4870 x2) because it doesn't see more than 2 GPU's?

Correct because you need vista for anything more than 2 GPU's. So when benching 3d (other than vantage) use XP when running a single 4870x2 and then switch to vista for xfire action. That way you get points for both single card and dual card runs.

Gotcha.... I was going to do single and dual in both, but now that I know this I won't bother with dual in XP. That will save some time.

How does this compare to tinyxp?
I was wondering, coz I think tinyxp only takes 40mb of mem?
I could be wrong, but its what I have been using, wondering if its worth doing this instead?

If by some reason you make a non-bootable ISO you can use CDIMAGEGUI to take the files and create a bootable disk out of just the files on the CD. I have been using it for years without incident.

Best bet (unless you feel like telling the program where to look for stuff is do everything in C:\

Extract CD (windows drag and drop is fine) to C:\XPCD

CDIMAGEGUI if I recall correctly extracts itself to C:\CDIMAGE if not put it there.

It works great been using it since XP SP1 for slipstreaming service packs.

NLite I have had nothing but trouble with (I built my unattended disks by hand) they always seem to go wonky after a few weeks. However for a benching OS, there is nothing easier.

I have been meaning to make one with application installs but just have not had the time to do so.

Which is freely downloadable if you have a MSDN account.

TintXP may be small but performance is terrible ;)

Much better off doing it yourself or finding a copy of the OCX server 2K3 disk

With TinyXP, downloading is illegal, though no one cares. This is the program that is used, and is legal to use... Though no one cares...

i dont have a problem with that at all (not speaking on behalf of eva) but i guess if you do your thing it's cool

it doesnt take long to do this kinda stuff anyways and it will help many here to have good OSes for benching :good:
