WHY PCI

Why do the new P67 and Z68 motherboards have PCI slots on them? Are PCI cards making a comeback I haven't heard about ??

No big deal, just find it a bit confusing :Dizzy:

Splave 06-14-2011 03:23 AM

never had a use for one myself

My point exactly :Dizzy: At least, not for the past several several years.

So why are they on these boards, huh, I ask you

Neuromancer 06-14-2011 04:28 AM

Because if they did not put them on people would complain there 10 year old NIC cards or audio cards do not work.

There are other devices out there that are much more expensive that use PCI as well, like capture cards.

But

I agree. Hell the P8P67 Pro has 2 PS/2 ports on it as well. Whats up with that?

Stay out of this :p
Several high end/professional sound cards come in PCI form, the same for some A/V cards and tuners ( DVB-S2 for example, satellite tv on pc ).

On my main HTPC ( movies + gaming + music ) I'm using 2 PCI slots and 3 PCI-Express slots.

A new BUS/Slot more suitable for A/V than PCI-Express would be more than welcome, but can't see that happening prior to 2013.

MaadDaawg 06-14-2011 08:48 AM

Hey Dude,

I know, I used to use a $200 PCI sound card until a year or so ago, but hey, they make them in PCIe too

So when you moving to Chicago??

Witchdoctor 06-14-2011 11:30 AM

Gigabite is the worst ..... they have multiple pci slots on them and if you have xF or SLI you better have a pci sound casrd ior it an't fitting on their mainstream stuff

BenchZowner 06-14-2011 11:32 AM

I shall come for 2-3 weeks in late August, then head back to Europe to join some friends on a cruise, and come back for good in late Nov/early Dec.

punx223 06-14-2011 12:12 PM

people complain about everything....

one thing to note at extremem overclocks sometimes USB can fault, and that why many benchers still use PS2 keyboard/mouse when possible....

Witchdoctor 06-14-2011 01:49 PM

+1 ... PS/2 all the way for key's & Mouse

Man, sounds like you're living the good life

It can get a little cold in these parts come Dec so be prepared

BenchZowner 06-15-2011 01:48 PM

I'm trying man ( although my bad luck & my effin stomach issues do their best to gimme cr*p most of the time ).
Tell me about the cold, plastic conformal sprayed hardware with Sandy outside the window, free sub-zero cooling :p

You could just duct the freezing air in ;)

or just turn off the heat and open the windows :D

BenchZowner 06-16-2011 03:57 AM

What you want to do is:

Let the computer outside.
And turn the heating on inside, to the max.

That's a double combo breaker.
You overclock the sh1t on air out of your CPU, and you have the girl/s taking off their clothes :p

MaadDaawg 06-16-2011 07:48 AM

Yeah , we used to do that at parties in college ;) Turn up the thermostat to get em to start shedding their clothing  of course, when I was in college it was the middle of the womens lib and sexual revolution so getting them out of their cloths was never difficult

What is overclocking with air ? In the winter I just open the windows, turn the window a/c on, and bench in my heavy coat, hat, and gloves. In the summer I leave the windows closed :P No need for heavy cloths either :D

Would be kicks to have a couple of naked chicks pouring LN2 though wouldn't it  (just joking Rogue lol  )

MaadDaawg 06-17-2011 03:50 AM

Ok, I cannot tell I lie.... I wasn't joking. God I feel so much better getting that off my chest :D

reflex99 06-18-2011 01:05 PM
