Which PSU
Dudes,
((NOTE: if you vote for Corsair, please elaborate why below -tks) <- added 11/10) I've taken it as common knowledge the past few years that the PCP&P Turbo Cool 1200w was the ultimate overclocking PSU. Then a year or so ago Shammy posted how the Antec 1200 Quattro was the best PSU. Now, lately, I've heard people expressing really good things about the Corsair AX1200. I am going to once again rebuild my gamer, and take it out of the corsair 800D and put it back onto a banchetto 101. I also want to keep 2 bench ready rigs. I have 2 of the PCP&P units and 1 Corsair unit. I want to make sure that the best benching PSU makes it onto at least if not both of the bench ready rigs without having to spend more $$. I also have a PCP&P 950watt silent series PSU that may work for the gamer :Dizzy: Would appreciate your thoughts. Vote in the poll, and maybe expand in the forum what your thoughts are. Thanks :D |
I went with the ax as I have one and it has seemed to be plenty
Patch is the best man to answer this with his 4x exploits I am sure he pounds them pretty hard. If I was to buy one today I would probly roll with this 4x30A per rail monster ENERMAX MAXREVO Series EMR1350EWT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194092 http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Enermax/EMR1350EWT/ they may have a 1500 on tap |
I am Antec all the way!
|
My Antec 1200w was the shiz in the Banchetto. Never pushed it though and haven't tried any others so I can't vote.
|
I heard too many stories of those Antec 1200 OC PSUs blowing up motherboards to feel comfortable with them

Zippy/Emacs first, http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate...rUrl=Translate
Not pretty, but very powerful and consistant, and almost no ripple. Then PCP&C Turbo Cool Voted Turbo Cool. Should have voted other. |

Difficult following the specs with the translation, but that thing looks like a monster, a fucking ugly monster, but a monster non the less. We'd have to ship it to OCM to sleeve it before using  What do those sell for ? |

Yeah, but you just sold yours ??? hmmmm

That's pretty cheap compared to the turbo cool :D

Just have heard a lot of the Corsairs lately, so, figured I'd poll it lol |
That zippy is a dual rail though, gotta be a little careful with that.
The Ax1200 is under $300 too http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory5&reid=189 |

EDIT: Oh BTW, the EVGA SR-2 is a Antec Quattro just rebadged for EVGA. |

Don't mind thinking if there's an advantage to the multi rail, and for the price you can't beat it, other than the fact that its fuckin ugly that is :D |
So far, the Corsair is in the lead, and I am curious why.
Is it basically a function of price, or, do you believe (and/or) know that the Corsair gives cleaner power than the turbo cool does? Or do you like it for the quiet fan? Please elaborate on your vote - tks |
Antec, eff Corsair.
|
I voted for it as it simply gets the job done with no problems ...... knock on wood
Although if I were to buy one today, I would go with the MaxRevo 1350 239 AR is a great price |
good call Witchy
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194092 I still have my 1050w Revo, still a beast. |

The Turbo Cool is a better PSU but twice the price. |

I hope to hear from Patch and Splave as well since I know both of them use or were looking for Corsairs |
In my opinion you really need to look past "the brand name" and look at the OEM. Corsair AX1200 is made by Flextronics, who normally OEM for server grade units. Bottom line the AX1200 has a few reasons why i'd pick it above anything else you mention.
1. 90% power efficency at load, and over 80% without load. 2. 29mv ripple 3. The internals are built like a freaking beast, it has server quality power, with a line level filter. 4. Not made by Topower like antec, and seriously, it's got better components than the PCP&C, you're paying for a name nowadays. 5. 7 year effing warranty and corsair's really good customer support 4lyfe 6. 100% modular The Enermax PSUs are also quite good. |
Dude, you didn't vote :P
Good points, but from what I've heard previously the Turbo Cool had the cleanest power (?), but, I don't gave an oscilloscope so I can't test :) |

Look for reviews from the same reviewer. JG did not do a PCP&C so had to look at PCPer for a solid review done by both.
Corsair http://pcper.com/images/reviews/952/...pple-table.gif PCP&C http://pcper.com/images/reviews/458/...pple-Table.gif Judging by the nice round results on the second review I am going to say they were only accurate to 5mv and those are probably identical in ripple. checking out the first page of the review it looks like his test equipment has evolved over the 4 years since the PCP&C unit came out. Due to cap aging and such I would say the AX1200 would be better, but if you already have the turbo cool, than just use that. |
Yeah, a little strange how the PCP&C results were all divisible by 5 while the Corsair were not. But, there is a huge difference in the ripple at 1200watts. I got both and so far it looks like the Corsair is winning :)
Thanks Neuro man :D |
That Corsair does look like a really nice unit. If I needed a 1200w I would get the Corsair for sure.

wow man, look at the colors  |
PCP&C. I've had mine for over a year. Hasn't let me down once. Knock on wood (head). Only downside is cost. But i have been wanting an Antec. Just too many other things taking priority.
|
I've had both of my PCP&Cs over a year and both of them have never let me down. Bought the Corsair for my gamer so I have some options.
Curious cause both Patch and Splave were looking for Corsair AX1200s, so I figured must be something good about them :D Read too many dead motherboard stories to buy and Antec |
The PCP&C 750 in my main rig is 4 years old. Kinda embarrassed about that but the damn thing is still rock solid as the day I bought it.
|
yea I had the old rust colored 750
it was a work horse ..... e8500 w/ 280 cold benching was the fatal blow for it unfortunatly ,,,,,,,,,,,, |
I've still got an old Corsair 750. Every time I think I should sell it I find a reason why I need to keep it around :P
