post error code 34 ?? MIVEz
 

I tried running my 2600k under LN2 with a frozen GTX 580 Lightning today but couldn't get it to post - no matter what I did.

Worked fine yesterday :Dizzy:

Used a different CPU pot today and am thinking that's what caused it somehow. Keeps hanging up at 34, which is "CPU post memory initialization" (32 - 36). Anyone have any ideas?

Going to try it on water just to finish the running of the lightning (since my mf phase is down again :argh:

dunno maybe you were too cold, should need more than -30c no gain colder

34 if I recall correctly means IN BIOS or Boot Device Selection Menu.
Your VGA is slackin' probably.

That could mean anything. Water in the socket, too cold. Frost dripping down the memory. Sounds like its too cold to me. Get out the torch!!! :gun12:

HOwever, the cigar seems to go to the cute little robot dude that mentioned a VGA problem :eek:

I put on an HSF and an air cooled card to make it easier to move shit. I shut off pcie lane 1 and put the card in 2 - after a little fine tuning it booted just fine. So I turned 1 back on and tried it in lane 1, and locked up on 34.

Knowing what the problem probably was because that slot had been prepped for sub zero, I cleaned it out the best I could with compressed air and tried it again. Now, it either sticks on 34, or, finishes the boot by going to AE and then AA. Problem is, never get any pic after AA :ohcrap:

Either I'm going to kill myself tonight, or, all that good scotch will be gone long before you get near chicago BZ :rofl: The former sounds pretty fucking inviting right about now :laughing:

Seems to me there is a way to correct this problem using a dishwasher and a clothes dryer with the shoe rack installed. Can anyone give me the details on how this works? I know Supes wrote it up once but that was a long time ago.

Have you tried just booting on air at stock settings?
Or just use a dry pot . Only long enough to get into windoze. it wont hurt it.

Yeah Bro, hasn't been frozen since last night. Didn't see any condensate problems after the shut down but this shit started earlier today. Actually, it was frozen this morning, but never booted.

been working on it with an HSF and air cooled card for the last hour. Think I see what looks like a small amount of vaseline in the slot, which got me thinking of the dishwasher routine.

Any other thoughts? a hair dryer maybe?

I used something like it from autozone if I remember correct on a cpu scoket to clean it

You wanna go through that just for some Vaseline in the slot? I didn't think that gizzzz in the slot would matter.

Oh BTW vaseline and plastic = no no infact any petroleum product and plastic are not supposed to mix. Granted im not sure about the stuff they use on mobos, I know in a pinch it will save a dimm slot that got frost in it ;)

However, electric motor cleaner eats vaseline like its petroleum jelly and its a Peanut butter sandwich :) ($4 or 5 at pepboys)

I would nt use it ALL the time on a board, (rinse with 99% isopropyl afterwards or deionized water) but its under pressure for those sticky pins :)

This bottle of single malt was a "present" from my former employer when I got screwed, errr, I mean, laid off from my job. yeah, they had every right to feel guilty, the bastards :laughing:

34 is disabled PCIE switchy, GPU cold boot bug, no power to card (when I forget to plug it in) or simply poor contact. Vaseline won't cause your trouble - my slots always have giz. Look for some slimy eraser or an insulation crumb in the slot.

Most of the time I get that problem it's because the card is tilted down a little in the back from fiddling with something and the front of the card lifts up out of the slot a tad and loses contact.

Just tilt the board so the excess runs right out the front of the slot onto a piece of card board or a dinner plate or something :)

Or try what patch said.

I remove all eraser and insulation from the board last night, then tried compressed air from all angles to clean it out. Haven't tried it yet but hopefully that will do it. If not, either off to pep boys or I'll just try using rubbing alcohol.

Actually, I am not a big drinker (unfortunately :rofl: ) I have several bottles of good single malt, and then a good bottle of other whiskey varieties for guests, even though we seldom have guests :laughing:

the bottle I described yesterday is half full (no, not half empty ;) ) and I've had it over a year.

I thought of the tilted thingy because as you know the lightning with a fat boy is extremely heavy, and with board insulation, sometimes difficult to seat correctly.

but I ran startups with the air cooled card in every concievable position (well, except 69 of course :rofl: ) Even held it at different angles to no avail.

Maybe today :thumbsup:

tried it on the off chance...

debug goes through the boot up routine and gets up to
98 - console input devices connect
99 - Super IO Initialization

but when the monitor sets itself to the input I have the card on it drops back to

A2 - IDE Detect
34 - (32-36 = CPU post memory initialization)
AE - Legacy boot event

sometimes goes on to

AA - system has transitioned to AHPI mode
but windows never loads

All i can think of now is that maybe you tightened the pot down to hard and when it froze the board cracked or something to that effect. I honestly don't think it needs cleaning. But wth. Might as well try. Personally i think the board is fk'd. RMA time.

I actually tightened the pot down less than I usually. Hope you're wrong, they just shipped my P67 today :argh:

At the beginning of the session, all was running pretty well, then after about 3 hours or so I started having problems, so I shut down and found the CPU waaay looser than I normally run it. So I tightened it down some more :dumbshit: on the frozen board.

Slot two still works fine but slot one keeps haning on 34 :thumbdown:

Don't waste time with RMA. Just use the other slot - it'll give you more room anyway.

Or bake it.

Regualr bake, think its 350F for 10 minutes is recommended. But double check that. I never tried

Personally, I wouldn't worry about freezing the CPU if the second PCIE slot works.

As it stands, you're not using it at all. How could you make things worse than that?

I have baked some @400F but no 5 bill cards

And only one came back to life was a 8600gt but only one dvi works lol
