Intel killing off the destop pc

I've seen that posted elsewhere.
The consensus was to "wait and see" if it comes to be - But if it does, woudn't be good for the Intel guys at least.

Let's hope it doesn't happen.... Or at least anytime soon if that's the case.

Witchdoctor 11-28-2012 12:59 AM

Thinking it may not be good for AMD guys ..........

That would bring a lot of competition to AMD playing field, Everyone would have to use them.

TBH though I do not see Intel giving up the revenue.

But who knows, in twenty years we will may all be benching smart phones .................

The enthusiast market is pennies for Intel.

Interesting, they must have worked out an updated and efficient fab process for bga. They'll keep making socket processors though imo, this is just a stop gap in their lineup, sure they'll have this alongside traditional lga.
Highly doubt intel wants to be tasked with bazzilions of mobo manuf duties.

Agreed, but I think a smaller company like AMD would apreciate that market segment.

Im not too worried, this article is about a laptop line of cpu's

GFDuke 11-28-2012 01:33 AM

Oh i didn't realize that Guru3d article was about lappps. Like Witchy said though. AMD will most likely be what we are benching in a few years.

Splave 11-28-2012 03:04 AM

I'll support whoever takes care of our hobby. Same as we always do :D

I don't see Intel killing the server line, remember how AMD almost went full Mobile and didn't work out, I am sure Intel would do the same if anything happens. We'll see ;)

And i rather bench 5yo Palm than coming near 10ft of any AMD product XD

Like the man said Kiki, keep it clean.

Thread went a little south haha.

But servers, switches and storage frames will be in demand for a long time to come, working in a data center i've never seen a AMD server only Intel. We have multiple builds (new installs) on a daily basis and still have a hard time keeping up with the demand. Even the newer Cisco switches and EMC storage frames are using Xeon chips. While someday the Overclocking K series or PC chip line up may fall, we wont be left without the Xeon line for a very long time.
Just my 2 cents.

Went ahead and took care of it :D but if we weren't trying to bug Kiki, I guess we woudn't like him in the first place.

I've seen alot of Xeon based servers too and have to agree, Intel isn't going to just stop making those chips for the sake of doing it. There's is too much demand for them right now and they know it.
