ASUS RIVE X79

Well its really not a build as I have had it for almost three years :ohcrap:

I'm linking this off the other thread of WD That I high jacked, So after over clocking this to around 5100 I have once again lost my rad "bootmbr" is missing is what the board says. I can boot it in safe mode and it will go to regular windows 7 splash screen n lock up. I assume as Kal state its an IMC issue as I been clocking with four sticks/16GB of memory. I do not want to RMA this again, I am in the process of trying to repair the bootmbr.

That blows, hope it works....

you grabbing an IB-E to throw on the fire ?

You spoke too soon, think the IMC on the CPU died a horrible and abusive death, reguardless shes in RMA heaven now:Hi:

Witchdoctor 08-20-2013 09:22 AM

Cool, so they are sending a new one FTW

Hope it is a good one ............

I know the last RMA I got did not clock as high as the chip it replaced, so I may just flee bay it. I assume I killed it using all four sticks of memory while running over clocked a lot. It would be nice if they sent me a Newer CPU

Witchdoctor 08-20-2013 12:29 PM

yea I run four sticks as well, my memory does not clock worth crap

Can't even do advertised speeds of 2400MHz ........

Mine was the same way, I used to be able to run 2400 all day originally, heed my failure!!!!!! If you get no memory errors, I'd assume its the onboard IMC(NOT COOL!)!!!:scared:

Witchdoctor 08-21-2013 03:47 AM

No errors, but only run them at 8-9-9-22 1T running at 952Mhz 24/7

and 9-10-10-24 1T at 1066 for benching, so now I am not sure if the board just can not do advertised speeds or is my IMC just weak

Isn't there a voltage to adjust when using more than two sticks or over clocking? I know with mine, the damn settings change in the bios(after resets or BSODS,Etc) and that too added to my situation as my memory was under volted but overclocked(Yeah I LOVE ASUS!:scared:) piss me off!

Witchdoctor 08-21-2013 10:34 AM

Voltage has little effect unfortunatly, I know it is not the stix as they kicked ass on my Ivy set up

This is why I am looking at the Dark and an IB-E set up

Just a lot of cash ....... :ohcrap:

What I meant, was I think on my board when running four sticks rather than two they were raising some voltage on the board, to help keep the CPU feeding properly.

Most likely the IMC. That chip performed best at around -30 - -40. No colder no warmer.

PhIlLy ChEeSe 08-27-2013 04:33 AM

So I got my CPU back from RMA, question when gaming and everyday usage should I only use two sticks or four? I don't wanna do what already happened, I know now to only use two sticks while over clocking..............
Anybody think I should sell this CPU? Suggestion's............ Like will it be worth it to keep over clock and game with? Remember this is an RMA chip

GFDuke 08-27-2013 09:14 AM

4 for everyday use....2 for benching. As to whether or not to keep it for benching depends on how it overclocks, obviously. It's really about what you want and need. If you only want to use it for everyday use and I works fine then keep it. If you only want to overclock it and it clocks well then bench it then get rid of it.. RMA chips aren't always bad clockers.

Cool!
You know how they always have the white sticker on the box, on mine it says "Parts Room (Good)". Not sure but we shall find out soon enough.

MaadDaawg 08-27-2013 01:38 PM

RMA chips aren't necessarily dogs, probably just as good a chance you got a winner as you've got a loser, so wtf lol

I use 4 sticks on both sides on my RIVE for gaming, no problems. don't think you stress the IMC until you overclock

PhIlLy ChEeSe 08-28-2013 09:50 AM

COOL COOL!
well upon chip return my Raid will not start, with the OS disc I can enter in, so now I'm backing it up so I can delete this but save my game files. Not sure how to reformat as clearly the Raid I'm using ain't cutting it!!!I guess I'll just use them side by side to form one big HD with out the raid(suggestions welcome). I try to keep my game stuff off of it but when they install even after pointing them to another disc they put stuff on my main HD, I have tried several times to move them but always end up re install the GOD DAMN GAME UGH!@
Any who thanks all for your help, hope to be back up in action again soon!!

GFDuke 08-28-2013 10:22 AM

Is your RAID enabled in your bios? Just asking cause I've forgotten to enable it before myself. That doesn't sound like something that should happen.

Understand and yes it is. I went to delete the raid last night and It will not show me the intel screen even though its in RAID mode witch I checked after it went straight to the windows Splash screen. Now it just randomly losses settings in the bios, or changes boot drives. Asus RMA is the worst!!
replaced the CPU replaced the Ram, only thing left is the board with a bad Raid controller, hell if I knew witch chip, I'd try replacing it myself! Unless its the Intel SSD'S? May need a firmware up date? I'll check there site............:good:

UpdATE: down loaded Intel firm ware update tool with the latest firm ware for my drive, it said my SSD is up to date then shut down............ UGH!

Just did not answer, I can't do anything..................FAWKING PISSED!:ohcrap: No reply to my emails. I contacted FedeX but I'm sure I wont get squat with out Asus as far as helping me. I was gonna go on a binge here soon with it as I'm licking my chops over these POTS I got from a VERY GOOD MEMBER, Picture porn now. So I started making my bench table out of old scrap Plexiglass I have laying around, need a template so I have something to go by.

PhIlLy ChEeSe 09-01-2013 07:52 AM

Wanna keep this up front for a while...............

Witchdoctor 09-01-2013 08:04 AM

Nice looks like you are ready for some SLI goodness .......... :)

just put the board against the plexi and drill baby drill

Key is once first hole is drilled use through bolt

same with the second , then it can no longer move, drill the rest

I was ready till my benching rig went boom, only one working computer right now so have to wait. I got like 20 GPU'S waiting to be benched, four 9800GTX+ well five but one needs a cooking to bring back the memory on it.

Yeah the board holes, are a little off cause it moved during drilling, may just use nut n bolts. go the the hardware store get two nuts for each bolt, use the first one's to adjust the distance to the plexiglass. Don't have many stand offs, I'd like to try bending the plexi too but no tourch. I could get a pro pain one prolly need it for benching eventually. Seen a guy on U tube he bent the sides under really clean then bent them again made an open face case.
I'd like to put all the other stuff under the bench, IE rad's PSU, DVD, ETC. Hell at this rate I'd just like to bench period, very frustrating right now..........

That's cool and all but a 2 dollar bag of rubber feet some poly space and bolts and you done in 15 minutes

this is using plywood but just as easy on plexi

PhIlLy ChEeSe 09-01-2013 03:04 PM

Very nice, well I may spend a little time with it, as I'll have a ton now!! I'd like to put cable holes in it, to bring them up near where they go. I like yours, stiff n flat, like my old girl friend! :rofl

Yeah I have a spool of the rubber matting, I like the mount on the SSD'S!! Very clean!!
