come back

Ok after taking care of some unfinished business and switching careers I'm ready to come back.

I'm considering picking up Some x58 stuff to bench with Over the next few weeks. Hopefully I can help out on hwbot with a few boints.

Question, does the x58 platform still give out good points?

Kal-EL 04-25-2015 06:06 PM

I haven't looked recently but I would imagine in the processor arena that it would be pretty stiff competition as x58 endured as a platform for a while.

I say screw the boints, they're incidental, bench for funzy man. Pick a rabbit and chase like hell.

Your right, I remember doing dice runs on my amd 955 and it being amazing just having fun.

I always liked competition so I'm going with it, just need to find a gpu pot as well and a mount for a kingpin f1 Pot.

I'll be posting a lot more asking for help since it's been a while.

Cool, might stir up a little conversation around here.

my goal is to do my first dice run in 2 weeks, if everything goes right I'll have a full x58 setup and a i5 750 to bench with.

Kal-EL 05-03-2015 05:05 PM

Don't ask me, when in doubt I max it out, currently with the 1600 EVGA. Hehe.

Lol that's what I did with my 1200w in my rig. But for benching I don't want to blow all my funds since I'm almost broke again :(

Kal-EL 05-03-2015 09:42 PM

Strong + Warranty sounds like the ticket.

Witchdoctor 05-03-2015 10:37 PM

For single card action

Strong SuperFlower unit

Cold with two cards it will leave you wanting

modern x99 @ 1.6 to 1.7 core pulls around 400 watts

stock high end cards are typically around 250 watt's

cold @ 1.4 to 1.5 they will pull around 350 to 400 watts each

I popped my 1K Strider like a zit running running a 4770K @ 1.8 core and my 780TI @ 1.5 core

1200 is minimum for 2x GFX cards IMO , my 1300 watt G2 was struggling with two, ended up with a 1600 P

So now adays I use the 1600 for CPU and 1x gpu and the 1300 for the second card .........

kikicoco1334 05-04-2015 10:11 AM

How are you doing two PSU at the sametime? just hot wiring the 2nd PSU?
I've been out of the game for so long now I actually had to google how to change my RAM speed the other day...

Witchdoctor 05-04-2015 11:19 AM

Yea, my 1600 watt unit came with a hot wire plug for testing water cooling rigs, I use it for evil ........... lol

Assassin48 05-04-2015 12:31 PM

should I do 2x 850w corsairs then?
1 for cpu/board/ram
1 for gpus

Thanks kikicoco1334, I picked them up for double the shipping cost.

I don't want to go crazy spending like I did last time I got into pcs. Have to double, triple check everything before I buy.

Witchdoctor 05-04-2015 12:37 PM

I would get 1x 850 and not worry about SLI

keep in mind the 850 will do 2x GFX cards ambient

I am talking about extreme voltage in my post above

so I should be good with that 850w evga for now then.Since I'll probably be doing dice on lower end parts.

my dream goal would be to run 4x gpus all with ln2 but I'll ask for advice once I'm down that road.

Witchdoctor 05-04-2015 02:00 PM

good idea, just pound on that CPU and go from there

Assassin48 05-04-2015 04:24 PM

OC Maximus 05-04-2015 10:23 PM

I think I might still have my PSU tester somewhere in my parent's house. :ohcrap:

Assassin48 05-05-2015 01:03 PM

So now I'm on to my next purchase, ssd and ram

Assassin48 05-06-2015 02:43 PM

Look what came in today!

Kal-EL 05-06-2015 04:36 PM

hey that was quick. :)

Assassin48 05-06-2015 05:09 PM

it was, I think they have a warehouse here in California.

For gpu I'll use my 285 classy, and my x58 ram for now

Just need the ssd, but which one?

On another note, I wish I would of bought more 285 classified cards. Haven't found them since launch.

Kal-EL 05-06-2015 06:48 PM

SSD's all seem the same to me.

Witchdoctor 05-06-2015 10:25 PM

They are rare indeed

Look at the Sammy's, they are as solid as any I have used

850 evo or pro

Assassin48 05-07-2015 01:23 PM

This one is $64, this should be enough right?
Probably get 2, do I have one in my rig

Witchdoctor 05-07-2015 02:33 PM
