Still Working On This Portable Water Cooling Setup
http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...IMG_3596-1.jpg

Just need to get some quick disconnects. That way I can go from CPU cooling to cooling my GPU's during a DICE session. Just been putting this off for a bit while I stack cash! :D

DrNip 03-23-2009 02:59 PM

Well might as well go ahead and start to show you guys what I got goin. After a all new hardwood flooring in the house; installed by me as well as new paint, I got me a new desk today for my stuff. That's my 28" Hannspree in the background.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...l/IMG_4025.jpg

Very clean if you ask me. I have all the new sockets and covers, just haven't installed them so don't give me hell about the one in the background. Color me stupid but I spend thousands and thousands on hardware but I only get a $25 keyboard. :ash1:

Here is the RAM.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...l/IMG_4029.jpg

Tomorrow will be the mobo and hopefully after a delay already the D0 CPU will be in towards the end of the week. :green4:

I bought that this morning!

DrNip 03-23-2009 04:15 PM

I looked there all day but for the 3x2 versions. Didn't bother to check for the 3x1 versions until tonight. Glad I did as these elpida's go fast when there in stock.

I almost went back to the Mushkin 1600 MHz at 7-8-7-20.....then I saw those Kingston. I have some GSkill 2000 MHz but they are CAS 9, and the Mushkins would actually outperform them in benches.

Chuchnit 03-24-2009 04:46 AM

Anybody seen these yet?

http://www.mushkin.com/doc/products/...ail.asp?id=745

And gskill has 3x2gb elpida chips but they are 300 bucks.

DrNip 03-24-2009 04:50 AM

No but I think if you use:

xtremesystems.com

You get a discount on Mushkin RAM.

Chuchnit 03-24-2009 04:52 AM

Yep it works. It wasn't for a while but it works again.

Kal-EL 03-24-2009 05:00 AM

Thanks...they must have just added those. I was at Mushkin a few days ago and those were not listed.

The Gskills that are available now have the Elpida chips are a lower binned chip and CAS9. The Gskill Perfect Storm 3 x 2GB runs at CAS7 2000MHz and should be available soon. These are the ones I am waiting for but until they come in I have ordered the HyperX 2000Mhz CAS8 3 x 1gb modules.

Very wise as this is the route I took. I guess you can call it a band-aid until somethin else comes in. I will prolly hang onto these 3x1GB's myself for awhile as I really have no need for 6GB's of RAM. Maybe by the time I get ready to upgrade the RAM the rest of the Elpida's will have gone down in price!

DrNip 04-05-2009 12:58 PM

Well I buckled down today and started gettin my tech station ready for action this week. I finally got around to screwing down my psu and zip tied all the extra cables down out of the way. That was a task in its own. I also put velcro strips on my fan controller and the station to hold the controller down in place. And finally I got rid of the one fan on the station and squeezed two fans in its place. That way air is being blown across the whole board and not just down the middle like it was doing. I used my SilenX fans as they blow alot of air at a pretty quiet db. They just weren't that good on a rad but in open air they are. The fans turned out easier than what I thought they would be. I just had to turn the brackets around to the middle and use three small zip ties. Now I will get air blowing directly across the RAM, NB and mosfets. :D

DrNip 04-05-2009 02:10 PM

Just a simple little mod that should drop my temps all around. I've never had a quad processor before. Got this i7 just staring away at me. Tuesday can't get here quick enough.

DrNip 04-06-2009 01:02 PM

Muh, out with the SilenX's and silver accessories and in with the San Aces and black accessories!

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...l/IMG_4059.jpg

Damn i7 and HyperX's just sittin over there talkin to me!!!

Chuchnit 04-06-2009 01:38 PM

I'm liking that mod nip. Now get that board in.

DrNip 04-07-2009 10:27 AM

New mobo should up and what do ya know. This one is packaged right unlike the last one. The box has a lid that opens and when opened you are able to view the mobo thru the window. The last one had the mobo in there backwards to when looking thru the window you couldn't see the mobo but instead you saw the accessories box. Sorry bastards. I know I received a return mobo the 1st time.

Chuchnit 04-07-2009 10:56 AM

Well lets hope this one works.

DrNip 04-07-2009 04:10 PM

Problems with this mobo already. 1st one was physically damaged and the 2nd won't boot. The gpu fan isn't even turning on. Here is the code it is displaying.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...l/IMG_4078.jpg

I have a 920 D0 cpu. Intel says for mobo to recognize new D0 steppings you need to flash your BIOS but I would think they you could get to the boot screen to do this. My mobo isn't even going to the 1st code let alone any of the codes. Rest of specs are in my sig. I have never encountered anything like this in the 10+ years I have building, tweaking and twisting computers. I don't know what code that is displaying. I have reset and reset the cmos. Pulled the battery for a couple of hours and same o scenario.

DrNip 04-07-2009 04:38 PM

It might be that the BIOS needs flashing as here is a response by snipe dogg

"if the mobo gets a halt on an incompatible processor in the socket it most certainly wont come close to posting because if it didnt have this fail safe it would risk board damage if there was a short..."

which makes since I guess.

Anybody have a C0 or know anyone that will let me borrow it to try flashing this BIOS would be greatly appreciative. I will pay for all the shipping.

Chuchnit 04-07-2009 05:05 PM

Totally sucks nip, but if that's your only problem then you are all set. If I had an i7 bro I'd sure send it to ya.

DrNip 04-08-2009 01:57 AM

Anyone have a Micro Center close in case I need to paypal some money to get one? At least it is only $229.99 there. :(

Jeffro64 04-08-2009 02:17 AM

I think there is one close to me... we would just need to call and make sure they have it in stock.

DrNip 04-08-2009 02:25 AM

Thanks Jeffro. I thinkin I will try an RMA as the very 1st boot was code 8.8. I then did a reset of the cmos and that is when it started displaying that crazy ass code. From what I have read code 8.8 is time for RMA. So prolly going to wrap this mutha up today and send it on a vacation.

Jeffro64 04-08-2009 02:33 AM

Damn.... thats two in a row, I hate that! I guess I got lucky as hell with my 790i's.

Does MC not have online ordering? I've never tried so I don't know. But i'll be glad to do that for you not a problem.

DrNip 04-08-2009 02:37 AM

Yeah you can order online then pick up. I think I will RMA the mobo today and go from there. If the next one is the same case then I will try to get a loaner. If I can't then I will be out another $229.99.

Jeffro64 04-08-2009 02:42 AM

Sounds like a plan.... hopefully the RMA will do it.

DrNip 04-08-2009 04:28 AM

Well eva2000 has sent DFI a email about the situation. Going to wait for their response on the matter that way I know for sure if it is needing an update or not. Otherwise I have my finger on the trigger and waitin to fire away.

Thank you eva. :D

DrNip 04-09-2009 02:30 AM

This is where I got to in all of its glory. It was soon all down hill from there though. Man that shit pissed me off.

http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/j...l/IMG_4075.jpg

Kal-EL 04-09-2009 02:31 AM

Damn that looks impressive.:broomstick:

DrNip 04-09-2009 02:32 AM

Yeah and it only had 1 of the 3 sticks in it a 1 of the 2 GPU's in it.

Still no word back on my situation and I have asked every main forum as well as DFI and the Amandtech article where they used the same exact setup as I had.

DrNip 04-09-2009 04:34 AM

Received a response from RGone over at DFI Forums.

Quote:

I spoke with DFI R&D in Taiwan and they went back to the very early 11/05/2009 bios and the D0 will boot with 'even' that early bios. Earlier than the original shipping bios. They suggested that you might be better served by RMA'ing the board where you bought it since it could be the board or it could even be a DOA cpu.

DrNip 04-09-2009 04:42 AM

GOD i hope it isn't the CPU as if I have to RMA it and get back a C0 I will be pissed!!!!!!

Chuchnit 04-09-2009 05:04 AM

My money is still on the board not reconizing the CPU. How many DOA intel CPUs do you here about?

DrNip 04-09-2009 05:09 AM

But the DFI guys in Taiwan said they rolled it back to an earlier BIOS and it still boot. I bet the mobo is toast. I really don't think it is the CPU. I just can't see the mobo not at least booting to a certain point. It will through an error before it tries to load windows but it should still at least boot to the point where you can flash your bios.

Chuchnit 04-09-2009 05:11 AM

Well lets hope you just need another board.
