20x Linx Stable i920 HT runs
1 Attachment(s)
Lets see some.
Ive got 4.2HT as my "sweetspot". Lowered every voltage as much as possible, and tightened everytiming as much as they would go. 920 D0 - 4200Mhz - 1600Mhz - 8-8-7-21 - 1.33VCore - 1.265VTT - 1.6VDimm - Auto everything else - Water - 35C/74C Working on more. |
I tried running this on my R2E with the 965 all settings stock. Instant blue screen every time. Don't know if I had a setting messed up or what but gave up.
|
I'll try and get one for ya tonight Cecil. I ran 5 passes easy at 4198mhz 1.28vcore loaded. Memory needs work though so I'll be spending my time on that.

Here's a run I did recently
920 C0 - 4000Mhz - 1600Mhz - 9-9-9-24 - 1.35VCore - 1.318VTT - 1.66VDimm - 1.86CPU/PLL - Auto everything else - Water - 25C/82C If I had a Rad in my cooling loop, my temp delta wouldn't have been so wide. With better control of temps I could get a 4200 Mhz pass. I was 70 min. into a run and got an error. :argh: |

Got 4.3HT now, working on some more.
920 D0 - 4300Mhz - 1640Mhz - 8-8-8-24 - 1.3875VCore - 1.325VTT - 1.6VDimm - Auto everything else - Water - 36C/83C |

920 D0 - 4405Mhz - 12600Mhz - 8-8-8-24 - 1.5VCore - 1.5VTT - 1.6VDimm - Auto everything else - Water - 40C/89C
Still working on this one a bit. |
Nice 4.45 run but ouch with the volts and temps!! Can you get the volts any lower?

This was tested also few hours of prime and went on to crunch about another day and a half at those settings. http://img.techpowerup.org/090906/stability 4.2ghz.jpg |

Also, you are testing partial ram in that pic, not all. Makes a big difference in stability. |

What Cecil was getting at is, when running LinX to test stability, you should run 20 passes and remember to press the "All" button beside "Memory to use". Itadds quite a lot of stress.
I've had runs crash in the 19 pass, 70+ min in. |

Task manager will say 100% even when its not. The memory controller is on the chip, and prime does not stress it fully. Even 3dmark will say its 100% when its not. Thats why there is a large difference in temps between the tests.

I never noticed that, thanks for pointing it out. Prime is still to me the best method of stress testing based on my experiences. If you can overnight prime with no issues, I say you are good to go. LinX is great, but I've had LinX stable rigs fail prime. So I try to stick to prime unless I'm just looking for quick stability. |
Meh, everyone's definition of stable varies. For me, if it runs wprime 1024, superpi32m, all the 3Dbenchmarks, and my fav game of the month, then its stable. I'm not crunching, folding or running a cad system so this works for me in my world.

I have to agree with Kal...I run 3.9 24/7 and if that sucker will do 3x linx and play the games i want i am cool.
Now when i bench a 3Dmark run from 4.500-4.625 I really don't care if it's prime stable or not..If it finishes the run it's prime.... |
I was going to say something similar. More & more, I'm getting to the point where if it finishes the bench and I can get a screeny, it's stable enough.
|
I was able to do that with my previous rig. But this CPU in particular is very very tricky. So I just reverted to Prime, trust me I never stress tested for anybody, but this CPU in particular has caused me too.
|
Maybe it could be the MB,Ram or GPU. I have had two I7 920s CO and DO. One 950 and now a 975 and they are pretty straight forward as far as clocking them...Maybe??

my C0 was pretty straightforward, but my D0 is a bit tricky, once you get it right, it clocks hella good. |

Well, weighing in at over 1200lbs and producing 100lbs of high quality dense dry ice an hour, It looks like it could temporarily treat OCD. You'll have to get a price quote to be sure tho.
I'm curious how much it'd cost. Still, as a Resident Diognosior here, I'd have to be responsible and point out that this is a very temporary fix and you MUST realize that LN2 is the preferred long term treatment plan. :band2: |
I haven't phoned them for a price, yet.
The reason I went looking for this in the first place is because the only place I can get dry ice in town isn't open on the weekends and they don't produce it here. They get it shipped in and store it. The stuff I used, so far, seemed kinda low grade or degraded from storage. I picked it up on a Friday afternoon, benched after work, and by 5:00 am, it was all gone. Needless to say, I had serious withdrawl symptoms the rest of the weekend.:greensick: |
Haha, yah, I know what you mean with having a taste of cold and have it all subliminate on you. I can't complain, the only thing I pay for is the drive.
If you got 30k laying around, they sell LN2 plants as well :Dizzy: |
"OCD" I am shit my pants laughing!
|
Yah! Go ahead an laugh funny boy. You'll catch the bug soon enough hanging around here.

It wouldnt hurt you're hwbot profile if you submitted a run or two. In fact, wprime 32m and 1024m have a convenient and easy "Submit" button built right into the application. Even the laziest of overclockers can garner 2 or 3 points at stock speeds.
I know ur not a pussy tho and running at stock is out of the question :poke: :cool3: |
I try to find two speeds. Any modern CPU (made in the last year) at stock even is fast enough for daily apps. So I look for a high clock thats easy to get to for 24/7 that is stable.
For benching, whatever passes is good enough. Id just rather it be stable to not worry about any long term damage to the chip, even though Ive never been known to keep a cpu (or just about any part) more then a month or two. |
