6Core Thuban

who's noticing the worry from intel hardcore fans @ xs.....lol

i'm not a little worried coz i don't really care.

but i'm guessing 6cores @ 7ghz will do alot of damage. the older cpu's can do 6..6ghz with all 4 cores enabled.

anyways if you've seen the benchmarks with 6cores versus the i7-960s its a pretty close battle already...

amd having fixed the coldbug

we're in for a good second half of 2010:thumbsup:

Most of them out right now are locked multis

I'm not too worried about right now

Maybe once a black edition comes out it will be nice but the 980x will still spank it in 3d no doubt

Neuromancer 04-14-2010 07:22 PM

yeah the 980X will definitely kill it in 2D multithreaded and 3D stuff. But ... Then again.. pretty much everyone that can afford a core i7 chip can also afford a 6 core AMD chip...

The $300 1090T 3Ghz is a black edition.

Im hoping the 960T is a black edition, since it should cost in the $150 range and possibly unlock the two extra cores.

I wonder if AMD will ever catch up to Intel in tech. I've always used the because they are cheap (I was pretty young back then) and pretty reliable but now i'm slowly getting a taste for the intel i7.

It seems to me that AMD doesn't really have to "catch up" to Intel on the CPU side of things, since they have recently done so well in the GPU department. AMD's CPU price point really pushes chips, since most Gamers wold rather shoot their $$$ load on Good Graphics cards as opposed to top of the line CPU's.

I feel that my proof is in the sockets... AMD has been using the same 940 pin socket for the last few generations on the home platforms, and only really stepping up the game in server layout. They are effectively surviving on affordability in their setups, and even though they push to improve, they really do not need to blow us away to succeed.

They actually just had their best first quarter ever.

Affordable platforms that compair close to Intel, and leading in the graphics depratment. All my main rigs are now AMD from the price/performance ratio. Got a 555 for a $100 that can run about 4ghz as a quad core, a Sempron 140 for $22 that unlocks and OCs to a 3.7Ghz dual core, and a 5000+ for $35 that unlocks to a quad and runs about 3Ghz.

Here is a review for the 1055T

Neuromancer 04-27-2010 08:45 PM

nevermind

the cache dont add up

At least in my opinion..

both have 512K L2 and this is were it gets confusing....

900 series has 8MB cache and 6 core has only 9? Which means L3 cache has not changed size. Not per core ... but AT ALL same L3 as phentwo quads

Only thing increased is L2 cache and it has not increased... just that teh same 512 per core has increased (dunno why they stopped counting L1 cache but apparently they did it a long time ago LOL). Explains the poor mem performance since it is largely based on ALL mem. Might have to skip this tock as it were....
