Its been a while
Recently rediscovered that i was a member on this site and that I haven't posted on it in ages so heres the specs of my current rig.
ASRock N68-S (I went with this board because iv'e owned some other asrock boards in the past and I liked them) Amd Athalon 64 x2 cpu 2.2ghz overclocked to 2.4 4gb of mushkin enhanced ddr2 memory Evga Geforce 9800gt(LOVE THIS CARD!!!) If anyone remembers my first rig I posted here im still using the old reliable case lol. Total spent on the build was 250-270 just about so not bad games really amazing plays EVERYTHING (except Gta 4 GRAHH it plays but not as good as crysis on max go figure) flawlessly and i have had no complaints whatsoever. Pics. http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...6/DSC00612.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...6/DSC00613.jpg (actually i dislike how close the ram was to each other but it is ok for now) http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...6/DSC00614.jpg (lol me and my friends call it the Sleeper pc cause it looks like POS but it games like a mofo hah) http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...6/DSC00615.jpg http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j1...6/DSC00616.jpg (i currently got rid of the CRT monitor cause it wasn't fair for this pc so with Christmas around the corner i think a 27" 1080p should be fine for inbetween these speakers lol) |
Not bad, yah you really do not need a whole lot of CPU if the resolution is enough.
There are exceptions of course, GTA IV as you mentioned absolutely demands a quad core CPU. Crysis is supposed to take advantage of multi core setups but it is a single digit percenage difference so really not needed. Most games still need only a single core. |
Yeah I think the Quad core is another Christmas gift idea for the fam haha, I'll prob be getting a phenom II x4 and give gta 4 another go.
Gta plays just not to my liking it actually plays really good better than i had expected but it only gets at most 20-25 fps down to about 13 when i last remember playing so. |
I can't comment on the Athlon X4, But the Phenom II X4s defintiely a very nice chip, you will be real happy with it.
From what I have seen the differnce appears to be mainly when loaded, the Phen II shows it L3 cache. There are a couple of benches that actually show the Athlon II x4 doing better than a equivalant Phenom II. |
It has been a while hasn't it?
Love the case size, could park a classified in there I think. Welcome to the forum :D |
Lol it looks like its big but its just i saved money by buying a small motherboard .
