RC car shopping

My son turns 9 this month and I want to order something tonight.. he loves RC cars but everyone buys him the POS walmart or radioshack cars...

I have been out of the loop for a long time on RC cars and was just going to get him this And grab an extra battery pack or two.

Really would like to keep it under $300. $200 would be even better

Also... its spring so expecting him to hit mud with it at least accidentally. Balloon over servos, not sure how to protect the motor though any advice would be great

Thanks

go nitro powered.... then no worries about mud ;) thats what i did when i used to run rc cars...

tbh though you can get a good losi or somthing in battery config that will be just fine.... believe me little splashes will be fine todays servos and motors are much more resilliant.

My Son is 9, and does not live with me... so no nitro. Although that would be a lot cheaper

I checked out team Losi, at least their RTR stuff and the ones in my price range need enough addon stuff that it would be out of the $300 maximum before I finished with it.

have you checked HPI, or traxxas.... traxxas is a lil more toyish but i found them to be somewhat durable

Ok how about this

http://www.amazon.com/Slash-RTRw-Bru.../dp/B002EV3WH6

1/16 scale.. which is damn tiny... but looks pretty decent

Only thing I am not sure of is.. I see an adapter listed in "people also bought"

If I buy a second battery for him will I need to buy an adapter too? Or is that just for the ACadapter they sell optionally (not the one included with the car)

I have that "truggy" and another 3300MAh battery sitting in my cart.

looks nice... not familiar with the brand though :( but hey if she works sweet... it looks like it comes with charger too so you should be good to go.

I saw somewhere that the Slash was built on the foundation of the Revo/E-Revo which my buddy tells me is top notch... but hes not online to talk to right now and I really want to order soon. Guess I will drink a beer and mull it over.

just do it bro... it looks good.

Neuromancer 03-12-2010 07:13 PM

I did. Freeagent popped online and was trying to talk me into getting a revo.. but the slash and the revo are same price up in canadia.. and this is not a brushless model... good starter car I think, $200 shipped with an extra battery.

Thanks for reminding me of some of the big names

Back when I was in Losi was starting out I think.. associated was huge (I had the RC10) tamiya always popular for the budget spender.. Kyosho was what I really wanted... the optima 4WD 4WS steeering.. woo whee that was like $400 for just the car back in the 80s... $600 for the 3 speed bruiser from tamiya.. now those same cars are nabbing 1K + on ebay its insane.

My neighbor had a monster beetle. Which he crushed a grasshopper with at hennings in lansdale, lol. Front tire came down hard enough on the car to put it out of the race hee hee. That was going for $500 on ebay wtf.

thats a 300% markup of the original price. at least.

I guess if he likes it enough I will getting one to race with him once I move up near him :) (My son I mean)
