Is it going to take another 5 years?

I was way impressed with my winnie 3200 back in the day. XP OS

Was loving my phenom II AMD x4 920 even with CnQ enabled

I was completely impressed with Core i7 the first time I ran it. Had the speed+ of core2 and the snappiness of AMD.

I am buying more and more HW (of course.. i am a HW junkie) and am not impressed anymore and totally regret selling my "antiquated" system that "felt" so much better than my modern ones.

Is it all OS choice? Is 64 bit that much better than 32bit? Or am I just becoming too jaded? Hell I think my 4.7GHz core i7 920 with 1900 MHz 7-7-7 ram is slow and unresponsive. (Benchmarks say otherwise... but it still "feels" wrong).

Not impressed so far with 890 chipset for AMD either.. feels slower.. like im running a c2d for crying out loud. God I miss my AM2+ 920 setup running at 900MHz it totally kicked either of these setups ASS at desktop usage.

dude its coz you're running windows...lol

i tried ubuntu man that thing was fast..but no good apps for me...

it was fast even on a single core!!! lol

Dunno what you ran ubuntu on, but it was WAY more bloated than windows for me.

EDIT: I am a linux hater, but it comes from years of dealing with it and unix, not cuz im a windows sheeple :)

I dont know, the combination of i7 and windows 7 on ssd is fantastic imo.

I do know what you mean in a way, my dual core amd ddr2 rig was smooth as butter and I really liked it.

I think if you went back to an old nostalgic setup after being on the new stuff, you would find its not what you remember though.

ubuntuu may be a bit app heavy out of the gate, but it's far from bloated. The fastest, most stable and reliable OS out there. I wouldn't have a job if it wasn't for it.

I have a SSD on my i7 rig and so far am not very impressed by it. Pulls about 240 MB/s read speed at 16/32KB benches
