Post Up Your Hardware...

That's right post up your tools of the trade for vmodding. I'm sure some of you guys got some pretty wicked setups for mods. All I gots right now is a cheapo iron from Radio Shack and the usual suspects; crimper/stripper, iron holder; etc.

Here's my crap iron: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...lue=RadioShack

Here is what I'd like to get with a nice magnifying glass on a stand. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-002-_-Product

lol @ crimper/stripper. I strip wires just like everybody else.... with my teeth.

cheap 15/30 iron, 15 watt tips.
wet sponge.
60/40 solder ftw
desoldering braid
two sided tape.
clean spot on desk (ok, clean-ish)

That's about it. Good light source and fresh eyes and it's win-mods.

No way dude. You can grab everything you need for ~$30 easily and have spare tips and crap like that to boot.

Plus, it's fun. You know you want too. It calls you by name.

I bought a little butane powered soldering iron but haven't used it to vmod yet.... actually, haven't done any vmods yet but a couple look doable. This iron works great for soldering wires to connectors so I'm thinking it should work?

Yea I am intrested .... seems like it is veru coomplex thought ....

I have some 3870 that were modded but got wasted in shipping so I may give it a go ....

3870 is a good place to start. all the trimmer mods and readpoints are on the back of the card, and aren't too crowded. Just lay off the coffee before the vgpu mod, it is tiny... :D

I have a $8 walmart 15 watter :) radioshack flux, $1 solder, tip cleaner, and use a wet shamwow to clean lol $20 max investment for limitless potential hardware clocking ftw.

lol... i guess I could save a few bucks by cleaning my tips.... instead of throwing them out in disgust...

Crimper is because I have OCD and use it for other stuff. My front teeth are dull anyways from biting fishing line to change lures.

The reason I want a nice station is because of a little boo boo I had with my first mod. Somehow the switch got flicked to 30w when I decided that the joint wasn't good enough. I ended up accidently removing the resistor. :ohcrap: Mod still works though. Vcore is just about .1v higher than stock with the trimmer turned all the way up.

When my tip gets dirty I just take scissors and scrape the tip till its copper again. Works like a charm
