Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme Question...
ok now.. i am back, most of me is back...
but i was trying to get my i7 back up and running, my board is in the title... [GA-EX58-Extreme] it comes with 10 SATA ports, i have 1 x 1TB and 4 x 1.5TBs and a SATA DVD-RW but the prob is i am trying to add some more 1.5s in it.. 10 SATA ports, 6 BLUE [all used up] 4 white but when i hooked up the hdds to the white ports nothing shows up.. what's up with that? is that RAID only or can i still use it as stander sata ports? that would suck some real ass there.. i been reading this here http://download.gigabyte.asia/FileLi...-extreme_e.pdf not it's not really helping much a little help please.. BTW Tigerdirect is got 1.5TB for only 80 ea free shipping! http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...sku=TSD-1500AS |
i found this in it...
10) GSATA2_0/1/2/3 (SATA 3Gb/s Connectors, Controlled by GIGABYTE SATA2/JMB322, White) The SATA connectors conform to SATA 3Gb/s standard and are compatible with SATA 1.5Gb/s standard. Each SATA connector supports a single SATA device. The GIGABYTE SATA2/JMB322 controller supports RAID 0, RAID 1 and JBOD. Refer to Chapter 2, "Integrated Peripherals" and Chapter 5, "Configuring SATA Hard Drive(s)," for instructions on configuring a RAID array. |
Yes kiki the white ports are on the crappy jmicron controller. You should be able to use them with a single disk or a couple variety of RAID likes the paragraph posted. You should be fine just using them for storage drives, but don't expect any decent performance coming from those ports.

To get those to show up, make the jmicron controllers are enabled in BIOS. Also, make sure they are in ide or sata mode.... Sometimes they are set to achi/raid by default.

enable jmicron in BIOS and make sure it is set to ide or sata, got it!
 but is that still going to be single HDD ONLY or can it be muti HDD with out RAID? i am not expect any awesomeness performance coming from those ports, but is that gonna be half wat decent? this is my movie server/oca bench setup.. if i am just dumping 1080p based movies on to it would that be ok? (about 8GB ea) thanks guys |
for sure :)
