I was given $500 to put towards a new surround sound system, and the Onkyo HT-S5300 was the best option for the price. Just got the stuff onboxed so far, speakers are HUGE compaired to my old crappy Pioneer 5.1. I know its no custom $1500 setup, but for movies and games I dont think it can be beat for the price.
$500 for the HTIB $50 for 100' 16g wire $90 for 5 year warranty $35 for tax $675 total $175 from my pocket Here are a couple unboxing pics. |
Very nice!

i love onkyo that my dads got but it had a jbl speakers :D
really clean amp....nice 2010..hope those new ones are better... now where do i get this 500$? :D |
I got it from HHGregg. Newegg has it for $430, but only options for up to 2 year warranty, which isnt really worth it imo.
Finally got done setting up, only to listen for 5 minutes then go to bed. I didnt know the PS3 (non slim models) cant send out DTS-HD MA or DD-THD, it decodes it then sends the LPCM. No biggie I guess, but I think Im going to get a sound card of a vid card capable of sending out the source. Base is very overpowering to what Im used to with sub at half volume. I turned on the volume EQ and that helped it out. Huge difference over the 5 year old Pioneer unit I had. |
Nice amp. I love me some onkyo electronics. Good stuff. I am still running my cheap RT-330 HTIB I got fro $150 shipped from their B shop a couple years ago :)
Speakers will need an upgrade, I got some polk monitor 30s off a guy on OCF that are pure kicking. Eventually want to make them rear surround and get some towers for up front :) |
