Taking the plunge :D

After many many emails to most of the academic staff at the uni it seems...
I have finally managed to do it, I have access to LN2 :D
Something I've wanted to do for ages, but just haven't been able to due to funds.
However, at 55p/litre, and with a 25l dewar I'm allowed to borrow for free, it just became possible :)
Any advice for a first timer?
Thinking of using eraser as insulation just because its what I've used before and its worked, tried liquid tape, and ended up with a dead mobo :( (using DI)

Looking at this for pouring?

sweet, thermo looks good too. Eraser ftw

Does for me :/
Yeah, the chemistry department have a spare, which they said i can borrow if for short periods of time and given notice etc.
To begin with will be my i45, got an e6600, e2160, e4300 and e6300 here that I can get cold, all been done with my SS, but should still hopefully get some boints
Then I'm either getting some cedarmills and a p5b deluxe, or an i5 setup methinks.
Really pleased with the thermo find, i was thinking for a 1.8 I was going to have to spend 20ish, 12.50 ain't bad :D, although, if it does have a small neck, may look elsewhere.

i have flasks ..that i don't use anymore...i wonder if they fit the box from usps though.

as for eraser...ummm some parts get wet..you just have to increase eraser surface lol

GeorgeStorm 10-28-2010 06:04 AM

I only use 4 of my erasers atm when benching with the SS, got another 2, so hopefully that should be enough.
How much would shipping be though? (on the flask)

Congrats on taking the plunge. What would be even sweeter is if they filed those things for ya.

GeorgeStorm 10-28-2010 11:30 AM

Mm, slight hitch on the dewar
To borrow it from the department I need my 'supervisors' signature saying I'm authorised to borrow and will take care of it etc
However, as it's no for uni work, i don't have a supervisor...
Will be asking lecturers tomorrow if they are interested in what I plan to do, I'm sure one will be :P
If not, I'll just have to buy, been offered a 25l for 200 shipped, so guess I'll just have to do that.

Sweet. Good luck George.

Hey - good luck George :)

Don't forget that with LN2 there's more to the insulation of the mobo than just eraser. You'll have to find some 1/2 closed cell foam insulation and or course shop towels to protect your board from the cold. eraser is for the water.
