Mineral Oil Cooling goes Mainstream

Someone finally went the extra mile and put together a production oil setup:

spfoam1 and I actually were talking about tryin this out but we couldnt figure out what the freezing point for mineral oil was, lol. I think if they could size it down to a smaller rectangle clear plexi glass case where you can place your monitor atop, it'd workout much better. Then you could custom etch designs into the plexi and utilize some cool LED lighting effects.

I think this is a stupid idea and have since day one as the average overclocker pulls his hardware in and out constantly as well as have to clear the cmos a time or two. It does look cool but wouldn't and couldn't suit my needs.

I think it is more for uber rich people that just wanna have something that nobody else does.

I agree for your use of a pc but for a gamer who might do slight ocing would be perfect for becuase very cool temps on ambient room temp. But yes that is a major draw back becuase once the item goes oil it never goes back from what i read about.

@ chucknit

LOL i personally am not rich but i know i have around 3-4g in my pc and thats the price range as this one! I much perfer the feeling of building something myself but lets face it to someone who knows jack about pcs and does alot of gaming isnt the worst idea. Sorta hard to mess that up its already in fluid.

Lets face it one time ago cars were only for rich people now everyone has one. I mean i built an area-51 pc by alien before dell baught them and that rig was like 6400 dollars and it was on water nothing as extreme as they have done here. Needless to say my wife poped a top when i told her that it was 6grand. Even came with like a briefe case pen and all kinds of other crap but didnt fly.

Who knows water is going mainstream im seeing more and more people doing it. You would think the next step would be oil or something of that nature. Maybe they will even come out with vid cards that are covered with some kind of coating except for the ram and gpu to keep it exposed to the oil and if one chooses to revert back to air will be possible.

Well the thing about the oil is that once the temps start to climb, there is no mechanism to remove the heat. Water cooling has that advantage. I'm not saying it wouldn't be something almost cool to own, just impractical for most enthusiast. I'm sure the guy has sold plenty though.

I am planning on building a mineral oil cooled pc at some point, my plan was to immerse the pc but add a pump + radiator to circulate the oil outside the pc for additional cooling. The idea would be to exhaust the cooled oil back into the pc directly on to the hottest running parts.

Now that I would like to see. What kind of container/case do you have in mind? Plus what are you gonna do about plumbing? Just have an inlet and outlet whole on the case? Oh yeah, what kinda pump will you need to pump thick ass oil?
