Daily Driver.....almost ready

There isn't really a "right section" to put this in so general discussion it is. Build log with proper pics incoming probably.... well as soon as I get the final parts. I got one of the last pieces in for my build. I would like to thank Splave, Neuromancer, hokiealumnus and Bogmali for killer deals on my used parts.

What I have now:
  • Lian Li PC-V1020B
  • Gigabyte P67A-UD7-B3
  • Intel Core i7 2600k
  • Corsair Dominator 1866C9 (for now)
  • Asus GTX580 Direct CU II
  • Corsair AX850W
  • 2 - Crucial C300 64GB
  • 2 - Samsung F3 1TB

What I need:
  • 2 - 2.5" to 3.5" converter (incoming thanks to Rich)
  • Thermalright Archon or Venemous X (not sure yet)
  • Some tie-downs for cable management
  • Some 2133 C8 Gskills

The megahalems I have just isn't gonna cut it. It's too thick to use even a 25mm fan in push config with tall memory. In pull the stupid whine makes me want to poke my eyeballs out with a spoon! Anybody have input on which aircooler to get? All I'm going to say is that I'll never cheap out on a case again. The little things totally make a quality case worth the extra price. Silverstone or Lian Li from now on.

I love the venomous :)

Looking forward to some pics
Considered an all in one water solution?
h70/new antec kuhler 920?
Although, gonna be honest, seems a bit overkill for a daily driver?
I mean, what do you use it for?
Surely money could be saved there and spent on benching ;)

Venomous in my daily driver ;)

I considered an H50/70 for about half a second. This will be 90% gaymer/daily driver/email rig and 10% bench rig when I have the funds to buy some old HW to bench. Oh and of course I still gotta bench the snot out of this 580. I plan on keeping this as a game machine for a while.

Noted. VX was how I was kinda leaning anyway.

Neuromancer 04-19-2011 05:13 PM

Looks like its going to be a hell of a rig :)

Spank 04-19-2011 09:56 PM

H50 is a very good and quiet choice for the cpu cooling + is kinda watercooling solution for better temperatures.

GeorgeStorm 04-19-2011 10:38 PM

I'm confused what's wrong with them? :p
Strap on some decent fans and they can beat pretty much anything else out there?
Although, by the amount of money you must have spent on this rig, why not go with a full water loop?

Should be pretty quick I think. I was going to put a lot of effort into making it look great but changed my mind. I'll do cable management for airflow, but this thing doesn't even have a window so screw it. I just want it to look neat and tidy.

Umm I haven't really studied the Corsair/Antec coolers, but from what I glanced at when they launched, good air is as good or better. Plus the look just doesn't go with my taste. The VX is cheaper and looks hella good imo.

GeorgeStorm 04-19-2011 11:39 PM

Fair play about cost, I got my H70 for £45 including 2 fans, whereas the VX is 40 on it's own, and ofcourse wouldn't fit in my case :P
Make sure you get a decent fan, can make or break any air cooler.
