ECI 12+ (Single Stage Phase Worklog)

Another project on the bench, a nice quiet and small phase cooler.

Goals?
Low cost (~$600 or less)
Subzero (Around -20C or lower) load on an i7 sized load (or more!)
Small footprint
Solid (steel base frame)
Decently quiet
Low power consumption (Sub 300W)
Upgradeable features (Full case, digital temperature display)

Specifications:
1/5hp Copeland r404a compressor
120mm Chilly1 Blue Condenser with 38mm fan (~100cfm)
18" Braided flex line (Extrable flex, without risk of tearing!)
Copper Spiral Evaporator and new Universal Mount
Full Insulation kit
Double H frame, solid steel, MIG welded, ground, then painted

Pictures up in a few

Desuperheater coil brazed, as well as the main suction entity.

Steel triple H frame it seems, to help suspend the condenser. Might end up switching to 3/4 or even 1/2" steel. This 1" is way over the top.

I call this a Harvey Dent shot, one face is cleaned, one face still oxidized.

The bend of this flexible line, a steel corrugated line under copper/brass alloy braid. Able to withstand lots of pressure and still flex well.

An update!
Frame spot welded, ground, and heading for sand-land before some paint.

Single Stage sits on it, have some nice rubber feet as well.
Total drop in unit, solid frame, I love it.

Very nice Nol. I bet this would be uber nice for a s775 24/7 rig. Still good temp goal for i7 too.

NoL 07-04-2009 08:55 PM

You bet, and i7 as well.
The load can easily be held, and you'd be surprised how little performance difference between -20C or so and -40C.
It's not a hu-ge jump, one that often costs you $500.

EDIT: Did you know you can't type hu-ge? "Huge" makes "HUG"

huge

Is this a build for a customer or one you are just building to sell when you are done?

NoL 07-04-2009 10:25 PM

To sell when done.
I have one or two people interested in it, but I'm not looking for deposits.
Then again if someone "calls dibs" on it I'm willing to take a list or build multiple at the same price.

Nice evaporator and mount ordered, took a bit of a while.
But should arrive this week so I can finish this up.
Oh and grinded and sprayed the frame!
Now to drill and mount some bolts and what not.

Mount arrives with evaporator!
Nice, universal, pre made insulation, what more could you want?
