Yeah the V1 is the standard 5000 series type "shroud" cooling yes? Not the funky egg shaped one?

The side blow fan style might actually cool a little better, however it runs into 2 problems.
a) you are dumping the heat back into the case
b) the fan is directly over the core so in a crossfire situation you are pulling the air directly off the back of the next card AT the hottest part of the back of the card.
I am running the 4890 which uses the shroud style cooler, and with a little modification it works AWESOME
(the mod fixed my VDDC temps about 15-20C
just a clean and repasting and about 3 mounts to get it adjusted right
