I was not on the ship when it ported at Haifa... (met up with it in Bahrain) and one of my shipmates tried to pay for something at the mall in Shekels he had left over. The cashier spit on the money. (Conversely, the USD is accepted everywhere.

Money alone does not the 1st world make.
