Back in the 80's, I wanted to buy stock in a company called "robot defense systems" (RDS). Stock was 1 cent per share and came with 2 warrants per share. I called the broker to buy 1000 shares but was told they could only sell shares in their home state... which wasn't where I or anyone else I knew lived
RDS was subsequently bought by Lucent Technologies, who was bought by Hughes Defense systems, who was bought my Northrup, who was bought by, who was bought by... etc.
Now there are only 2 real giants in the industry.. the 1000 shares of RDS would have multiplied in value exponentially ... but I couldn't buy them
