Default Wow...

What did I get myself into today?

Lets just say it involved a friend's ASUS P5k-VM and an E6750.

I cannot believe how horrible that board is for overclocking. It literally does not allow you to adjust the timings, voltages, or manually enter memory frequency. It basically has the worst overclocking options I've witnessed on a modern board in decades. It's basically auto overclocking... still managed to squeeze out a 420MHz FSB out of it which yielded us a 3.3GHz which was a healthy 25% OC.

In addition to that, I hooked him up with a nice new CPU cooler[GELID Tranquillo] to keep everything nice and cool to make sure his stock cooler didn't melt into the ground.

Overall, please remind me to never try to help someone overclock a board as crappy as that one. I demand overclocking boards from here on out.

Now that I think about it, I don't think so. But the thing was... this board was so cut down that it lacked had only 2 nonRAID sata ports but it had floppy and IDE. It had to be atleast 2 or 3 years old. I"m sure a bios or two came out since then, but i don't know if they improved the overlcocking features. Definitely something to think about with these crappy boards.

Sounds like this micro EVGA in my closet that doesn't allow for overclocking at all!

VM boards are always shite. They are the ASUS official branded versions of ones they sell to the big name companies (HP/Compaq, Dell whatever)

(I think its VM anyway...)
