MIVE dropping stuff?
I'm finally trying to learn this SB platform.
Been using IDE mode with a Vrap - working great.
I keep dropping my DVD drive. No biggie, don't need it..
But when trying to push bclock/memory further last night, I lost USB altogether. Mouse won't work and the drive LED on USB sticks won't even blink. Also, I lost all my BIOS saved profiles. PS/2 keyboard works and I can get into BIOS and boot into OS - but no USB.
Was gonna re-flash the BIOS to see if it was just borked, but how does one do that without USB or DVD working??
I just remembered the dual BIOS switch. Try that tonight.....
If that doesn't do it, any other suggestions?

what Bclk was this happening at?
also this references why benchers still like PS2 like in thread "Why PCI?"
but on SB you will have a distinct Bclk wall 103.4-108 depending upon config where you will all of teh sudden start dropping stuff.
Everythings clock rate is tied to Bclk on SB architecture.

Yeah, I periodically drop stuff temporarily when baseclocking - but the stuff described above has persisted s/p CMOS clear and at default clocks. And the erasing of all my saved BIOS OC settings makes me think it may be related to a BIOS fart.
Bclock wasn't even that bad when it happened. Was only at 104.1 X 56 when I lost USB permanently. The night before I was at 107 X 55 without any "permanent" ill effects.

Ran into the same issue on Saturday, MIVE with 2600k @ 54*104. All the rear USB ports died but the front still worked. About 10 min later the board died completely. Clearing the bios did nothing and when powering up the board it would just power down.
Fearing condensation issues, stripped the rig down and the board went into the oven for 5min @ 80 Deg. After letting it cool down for a little while put the pot back on and everything was back to "normal" for the rest of the session.
My Rampage III Extreme after about 4 hours at -100 or more would act the same. My best guess is that some of the components get a to cold when the art eraser freezes through.

Better not be CPU. This one's nice.
SS -37 to -40 load at evap head. 2 high CFM 120X38 fans on RAM and PWM's. Smaller fan on "Southbridge" - it gets warm with higher baseclock. Velociraptor 150, Ripjaws 2X2gb 6-8-6-24/1600's @ 7-10-8-24/2260 1.74v (need 1.73v minimum to boot at c7 with 2133 divider), LG DVD player, GTX 280.
I have a lot of extra chips here and an unopened UD4 to help troubleshoot.

If that's the case, it'll be bittersweet. Was only at SS temps: -40ish at the evap head. This CPU was still scaling linearly with small voltage bumps at 5.82 ghz. I stopped at 1.645v while at SS temps and had fantasies of 5.9 when giving 1.7v at 10-20 degrees colder temps.

Dunno. SS just isn't that cold and it hasn't been humid at all around here lately. I'm just going to call it shell shock from overclocking.
