anandtech article

Interestingly enough the problem doesn’t affect ports 1 & 2 on the 6-series chipset. Remember that Intel has two 6Gbps ports and four 3Gbps ports on P67/H67, only the latter four are impacted by this problem.

Intel's DP67BG—The blue SATA ports on the right are 6Gbps, the black ones are 3Gbps. The Blue ports are unaffected by the bug.

If you’re a current Sandy Bridge user and want to be sure you don’t have any problems until you can get replacement hardware, stick to using the 6Gbps ports on your board (which should be the first two ports).

The Fix

The SATA bug exists in hardware and there’s no way to provide a driver or firmware update that can fix it. The fix requires a metal layer change, which will result in a new hardware stepping (resulting in the ~3 week delay before replacement hardware is ready).

Looks like I will be sitting idol for a while,

the Revolution has 2x 6GB Realtek controller as well

But mine is RMA'd as well, Installing XP for 6 hours and losing a win 7 partition last night was enough for me

plus 52x brick wall on my end

So it can't be that bad.

Might have failed an internal qual. You would be surprised the kind of stuff that gets found after release to customer.

I meant EVGA, considering other manufacturers seemingly didn't

yea prolly is my CPU, but with the other problems the board has it is easy to find fault.

Not sure what I am going to go with now, but the Ud7 is the only other 2x 16 slot board so far, it just squeezes the GPU's together ....

How can the M4E AKA Asus flagship not have 2 16x lanes ..... WTF

eVGA where are they with the Classy ?

It was said that all SB shipping is going to be stopped
Suggested that it wouldn't be resumed until late feb when the new boards are ready.

Here is a good article on the topic straight from the horse's mouth.

Intel Newsroom

The company expects to begin delivering the updated version of the chipset to customers in late February and expects full volume recovery in April. Intel stands behind its products and is committed to product quality. For computer makers and other Intel customers that have bought potentially affected chipsets or systems, Intel will work with its OEM partners to accept the return of the affected chipsets, and plans to support modifications or replacements needed on motherboards or systems.
