An inherent benefit of an overclocked CPU is of course better performance and with the clock speed set to 4GHz, the Formula performed brilliantly. However, when the BCLK was increased to over 216MHz, I started noticing severe slow down in gaming performance and this wasn't limited to just one game. CPU performance was in line with what was to be expected so the culprit was definitely lower GPU performance. The link between a higher BCLK and the latter was never resolved and despite tweaking the chipset voltages, altering the PCIe frequency and using different slots, it was clear that the Rampage III Formula couldn't uphold its otherwise good performance. Even using additional power through the EZ-Plug didn't have a positive impact on GPU performance.
