Install OSes based on age. XP first, server 2K3 second Vista 3rd and 7 fourth.
If you have a windows 7 PC up and running, you can install the drive as an external (or internal) and format that way. That will provide the proper alignment without installing the EFS partition.
If you do not have Vista, you can find the Vista recovery disk online its a small Download that can be booted from a USB stick. I do not recall if you will have GUI formatting available but you can boot to command prompt and run diskpart.
