I tried that, then tried other instructions, and then late-night tried again that way. No luck.
Probably try that again when I get home later, I could have missed something.

There is a way to create a bootable install usb image with the miniePE creator iirc... I gotta find the write up on that.

Either that, or just spring for a used dvd rom at a mom/pop tech shop...

No such stores around here and I have dvd roms, just not SATA. If you can find something else to try though I'll try it.

I didn't realize a brand new internal dvd burner sata is only 25 bucks. I don't even have 25 bucks though. I hate being broke. Not many things I hate, but that is definitely 1 of them.

Yep, a cheap dvd drive would have been worth it to avoid all the frustration.

grub4usb is essential. Best way is to convert your XP installation disk into ISO format, then copy it onto your usb flash drive when you have made it bootable.
