Might be worth the investment to get at least a usb for installs

It makes no sense that I actually need one though.

Well I can't figure out how to get it to install from a flash drive. WinToFlash works, but when I boot up from the USB to install xp I get "missing or corrupt hal.dll" error, so it tells me to try this list of debug codes and none of them work. I know the HD works. It still booted the old OS(7) yesterday.

I read that the hal.dll has to do with the # of the HD, and # of the partition being incorrect in boot.ini. I have tried editing in different values other than the default debug codes and I just can't figure it out.

I only have the USB drive and the Sata drive installed, the sata is freshly formatted so it has to be the 1st partition and it must be the 1st or 2nd drive. I've tried all logical values(0,1&2) in each place.

I can see a fun night ahead trying to figure this out.

Yes I tried that. That's where I got wintoflash. Regardless of how I have tried it the end result is that the windows xp source files needed for installation are not being found no matter what tinyxp I have used, or which method.

I just tried the 1st suggestion again also rickss69.

I gtg. I'll be back later. Thanks for all the suggestions.

This is the procedure I use to make a flash drive bootable.

3oh6 posted this at EVGA forums for flashing the bios.

http://www.evga.com/forumsarchive/tm.asp?m=671353

I've used it numerous times with no problems.
