I don't know if it's true or not, but I think RAM sinks help to WARM UP the ram on the side when under LN2 if you have some good air flow on them.

I don't understand the recommendations I see from some top guys about different types of grease on the ram chips to insulate from the cold. I think that under LN2 most of the cold comes from the cold PCB itself. When I've used eraser and left the surface of ram chips exposed, they start getting frost on them before I start to see any at the edge of the insulated pot.

so ddr3 leave exposed and use ram sinks to help warm it.

Have not decided on what to do wit the 4890 yet whether taking it sub zero or not. Might wait on that so all the rest of the cards are ddr2/3

I froze my 4890 tonight with some decent results .... 1120/1150 in vantage for a gold, and pretty good scores in everything else (except 01 of course)

Hmm if I went cold on this card and only got 1120 I would not be a happy camper.

I got really good 4890 (thanks Kal!!!). 1040-1080 benchable on stock cooler.

This one only went 940 on air, cold it ran 03 at 1150, had to dial it back for 05 06 and Vantage though. No mods, just software voltage control.

I seem to get much better gains freezing nvidia cards over ati?? Not sure why but so far that has been my experience

You have real software voltage control over your card? I used riva with the volterra plugin and the 4890 CFG file. ASUS own voltage tweker did not work well and afterburner sucked. (for volts, worked great on clocks)

Also one thing I noticed on the 4890? Overclock is SOOO VRM temp related.. once you hit 90+C your done.

Repasted mine and adjusted it 3 times to get a reduction in temps. Kal can tell you I was on IM with him and was freaking out cuz first two seats were worse. He told me to calm down and try it again. I did and mad e a nice change in temps.
